This book offered the plot exactly as the title indicated.
"Ghost"
the story was straightforward and typical. I have seen/heard similar plot elsewhere, either in movies or books. the story turned out exactly what i thought i would be.
I had some expectation, like the boy wasnt really seeing ghost and he was just insane or something.
But it wasjust the ghost came back and told her little brother who killed her and no one believed him.
nothing new. this kind of story has been written and told many times.
the Parents characters were tpyical, boring and there wasnt depth. the emotions wasnt strong enough.
i do like the POV of the bad guy, simply because i havent read anything with bad guy's POV for a while.
He was a disturbing character, but there wasnt anything surprising. His plan of his crime was good tho.

overall, this is just a ok book.

I am so mad at you guys for gatekeeping this book! Why is nobody talking about this? Why is there no hype? This book is so fucking good. I'm not even going to give a proper review because I want you to go into it. Totally blind and love it as much as I did. READ IT.

Edit: I posted this in two Thriller Reader Facebook groups and the posts kind of blew up. So if you're here because you saw me recommend that, HI!

This book started off so strong but fell kind of flat at about the 50% mark. I ended up skimming the rest of it because I just wasn’t loving it. However, I do see this book being a great read for someone else so if you’re thinking about it I would definitely recommend giving it a shot!

4.5⭐
Genre ~ psychological thriller
Publication date ~ May 11, 2023
Page Count ~ 426
Audio length ~ 11 hours 55 minutes
Narrator ~ Katie Villa
POV ~ multiple 3rd
Featuring ~ kidnapped child, dead child, ghost (obvi), snakes

Well, this was pretty heartbreaking and disturbing, as dead children plots are.

Layla has been gone for 2 years and her case is still not solved, but luckily, Gale, her brother, can see and talk to her, so they work together to take down her killer. But will anyone believe where Gale is getting his inside scoop from? Not bloody likely, which is not surprising.

We hear from Clarke, the detective on the case and parents Rachel & Jon, which kept the story flowing along nicely and kept me gripped. I didn't get a big paranormal vibe, which was good since I'm not super big on that genre.

Overall, I was totally taken by surprise with who the killer was. We didn't have to wait until the bitter end to find out either, which worked really well. It was fast paced and well done, and that ending, wow, cue the tears.

Side note ~ my biggest fear is snakes, so I hated that they were in the story, yuck!

Narration notes ~ I thought she did a great job. Her male voices were fine, except Gale sounded a little older than 10.

Not bad, but longer than it needed to be and somewhat shallow.
