If you want a book to start you on your way to tackling plastics this is a good option.
Not recommended for those with a good foundation knowledge of the problem.

Being sustainable and doing my part in the world was always very important to me. I always talk to people around me about changes they can make to reduce their plastic consumption.

This book in very simple words summaries what a massive issue plastic poses for the world and that we simply have to do better! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What impressed me about this book was how reasonable it was. The premise was not that “we must stop using all plastic from today onward” but more like “let’s gradually wean off it and make achievable plan how to do it” and “let’s force our governments to enforce rules that allow us to do it”! This book motivates by the positive impact you can make not by guilt tripping you into a change! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is starting their journey on plastic free journey. Even I who thought that was very knowledgeable about sustainable swaps, found quite a few nuggets!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I LOVED this book! It actually has a lot of practical tips on how to reduce plastic in your life, in your workplace, and in your community. I'm confident there are tips I can take from this book and apply to my life.

My only complaint (and it's so minor) is that most of the company's mentioned in the book are British companies. I'd love to try some of their products, but the carbon emissions to ship them here actually outweigh the good getting rid of the plastic would do.

Probably one of my favorite things about this book is that McCallum knows that big companies will do whatever they can to do things cheaply and quickly--and therefore, we as individuals must take action, both with our votes, time, and money, as well as with our own personal actions.  For instance, reach out to companies that produce a lot of plastic--but also try to switch to homemade, eco-friendly cleaning supplies.

McCallum knows what he's talking about, and he has his credentials to prove it.  Not only that, but he reaches out to other activists (including Bonnie Wright!) to figure out how they think we all can best help our planet--after all, there's power in numbers, and there's always something else we can be doing.

What I really appreciate about this text is the fact that it offers plenty of recipes and alternatives.  Take for instance, how to make your own toothpaste from scratch, or the fact that many eco-friendly toothbrushes are made with pig bristles, but there are vegan alternatives out there using bamboo fibers.  He makes finding this information so incredibly easier, and his arguments make the decision to switch much more readily available.

I'll definitely be taking to heart some of his suggestions (I've already emailed Johnson & Johnson!), and I can't wait to run out of my own toothpaste so that I can try his recipe!  This is a great resource, and perfect for the person who has already done a lot of light internet research and is ready for the next step.

Very informative book on the plastic crisis, if only a bit dry at times. Goes into a lot of practical details about the plastic in different parts of our lives and how to find alternatives. As someone with campaigning experience, I didn't find the section about influencing particularly useful, but I'm sure would make newbies more confident about approaching decision-makers. Overall, a decent read on an important issue. 3.5 / 5.
