The Grim Reaper with benefits. This version of the grim is not a romantic lost soul he is an addict. He gets a charge off every life he ends and it is euphoria for him, not so much for the other guy. He works for controlling people who sell his collections
to prominent clients and give him a small tip/hit for his service. After a good hit he likes to celebrate with a little hide the sausage in one of the prostitutes that specialize in his kind. It's all going as planned till his girl on the pay check is not after his payment but needs him to help another. This change upsets his balance and has him stumbling to understand what he is and why he is.
I was not expecting to like this much I went in with negative expectations. First it's a serial which haven't sold me till now. Second, well the blurb sounded good but I've been disappointed a lot. Ha ! I loved it. Wow, it was edge of the seat, mind twisting, sci-fi, urban fantasy, and horror dark fun. The grim was not at all like I expected, and I loved reading him. This was a very imagination and enjoyable read. I like the world Quinn is creating, and the concept of the Debt Collectors is a fascinating one. I'm eager to see that fleshed out more in future installments--which isn't to say that the description here is thin, because it isn't. It's just an intriguing concept that left me wanting more detail, a clear sign that Quinn is onto something with her serial.
Delirium is a strong character. I got a good feel for what motivates him and what his life is like. His interactions with Elena are especially vivid. Quinn does a nice job of hinting at the toll Lirium's job takes on him without devolving into pure angst. Her deft writing makes the situations Lirium faces feel pressing and tense without being melodramatic.
Overall, quite well done. I'm anticipating the next installment.

OMG! This series is amazing! This post is a review of Delirium (Debt Collector #1) but since I have read the whole first season as well as listened to it too, it may be a little difficult to just talk about book #1.
I have to say that episode one was unbelievable and I was hooked from the very first chapter. Lirium is a collector of life energy and has orders to pass that energy on to those who are going to make a difference in this world. He does get to keep a percentage of that life energy for himself but he doesn't have the freedom to pass it on to anyone other than those select few who he is directed to transfer to.
But wait, what would happen if he did decide to give some of that energy to someone other than the high potentials? How would anyone know? And what could they do to him anyway? This life he leads isn't really the most glamorous life as it is. Can it get any worse?
Lirium really is a nice guy, and he is just doing what he has to do to survive. Nobody wants to be a debt collector, but hey, someone has to do it. Might as well be him as anyone else.
The whole idea of a bunch of debt collectors out there, collecting life energy and passing it on, sort of just blows my mind. This whole series takes a great imagination that I am totally in awe of. I guess that is why I am not a writer, but just a reader who gets to enjoy these words.
This first season was so captivating and I enjoyed both reading it and listening to it. I can't wait to get started on season 2, being released soon.

Because a person who is dying...is only using resources and hospital space and is racking up a debt to society - all your life you are. As opposed to letting them slowly die, collectors come to collect the last of their life and pay it out to others. It helps others live longer, strong, healthier lives. It's helping them search for cures or keep kids alive while they search, by feeding them days or years at at time.
BUT, that's not Lirium's world. His days are filled with collecting. It's a dark life, filled with death and frozen stares, with highs like a drug and lows like depression - all in a days work.

Interesting read, grim reaper meets sci fi. I enjoyed it, took very little to suck me in and make me want more. I can honestly say this was extremely well written, and had nice world building. I definitely will read the next part. Overall entertainment is four stars.

When I heard that Susan Kaye Quinn was writing a new series I immediately decided I wanted to read it. Delirium is set in a dark and gritty world. The series will be published in episodes, which is something new for me and while I think it works well, I already hate that I have to wait a week for the next episode.
Even though the story is pretty short the pacing is done really well. It never feels rushed and there is no epic cliffhanger ending although the ending does leave you wanting to know more. The story is really interesting and I liked the dark and gritty world Susan has created.
It is difficult to say much about the character, because I feel like I didn't really got the change to know them yet, due to the short lenght of the story. There is just so much we don't know yet and I think the later episodes will focus more in the characters themself. At this moment there are more questions than answers about the characters.
There is surprisingly much world building in this short story. The idea of debt and debt collecting is described really well and even though there are still enough questions left at least the main point about the debt collecting is explained well already. Even though there is wolr dbuilding I still want more and I can't wait to read the next episodes to find out more about this world. The oncept is really interesting and I am curious to read how the author is going to bring this world alive more.

Oh man, I think I found my next addiction. This is some good stuff. The main character Lirium's voice is so strong you are wrapped up in his world from the first sentence. The way the author unveils more of the world slowly, teasingly had me gobbling up this novella in about twenty minutes. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next one. The premise of the book is so different and I can already tell (even though the first "episode" is only about 48pgs) that the world building in this series is stellar.
If you are looking for the next sci-fi, futuristic novel with a hint of romance go get this now. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. If you don't go out and get the next one I will be shocked. Well done Susan, you created a fan within 48 pgs. Not many authors are that talented, I'm just so glad I had the opportunity to review it! Looking forward to all the rest of the episodes! I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this.

This was a short but really enjoyable book. Ms. Quinn does an excellent job of quickly introducing the reader to the world that Debt Collector is set in, and provides just enough information about the main character to make you care about him and want to read the next book.

I'm very happy with this serial so far. I read the first three in the collected edition and couldn't wait to get my hands on the next set. The story is very fun and addictive. Each edition has a defined story, much like a tv show. This is not just a novel broken up into chunks and that's the reason I like it so much. So, without even getting into the details of the story that's plenty of reasons to read it.
As far as the story goes, I really like the concept of debt collectors moving life force around from the dying to the people who can use it more. It introduces all sorts of fun moral grey areas and really makes you think. Lirium isn't really the most original character ever. He's the pretty typical naive, stubborn, young guy with a penchant for being soft-hearted, but I like him anyway. The other characters have pretty cool back-stories that it's fun to discover while Lirium tries to puzzle out their motivations.
I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone who would enjoy a read that is paced like a good sci-fi/drama television show.
