When Mia's grandfather goes missing, she and her mum travel to the small town of Porthaven to support her gran while they wait for him to return. Mia is annoyed about missing her Spring Break with her friends and worried about Granddad. But strange things are afoot as Mia and a girl she calls D begin writing back and forth in a diary hidden on an old fishing boat. I can't say more without giving it away, but everything ties up neatly in the end. Recommended for grades 4-7.
I thought this was a really really cute and unique story. There's a book I can think of that it might be like, but I've never read it so I can't say. But I really enjoyed this one a ton. So cute and enjoyable!

اولین بار که این کتابو خوندم ۱۱ سالم بود. اونموقع عاشق کتابای فانتزی و علمی‌تخیلی بودم؛ یه کتاب رو شروع می‌کردم و تا تموم نشده بود بلند نمی‌شدم. اولین کتابی که از لیز کسلر خونده بودم "جسیکا کجاست" بود و بعد از اون "یک سال بدون او" اونقدر جذبم کرد که بالافاصله اینو شروع کردم.
وقتی به تهش رسیدم و تازه همه چیز سرجای خودش قرار گرفت اینقدر شوکه و متعجب شدم که جزء به جزء کتاب رو برای مامانم تعریف کردم.
این کتاب یه پلات توییست خیلی بزرگ داره. یه چیزی که تا قبل از اون کل کتاب یه کتاب ساده و آروم به نظر می‌رسه ولی وقتی به اون نقطه می‌رسی...به اون یه جمله، همه چیز تغییر می‌کنه. وقتی نکته رو می‌فهمی، هرچی تا قبل از اون خونده بودی یه معنی جدید پیدا می‌کنه.
درباره‌ی این که اون نکته و مضمون کتاب چیه حرفی نمی‌زنم چون یه اسپویل خیلی خیلی بزرگه. می‌دونم احتمالا هیچکس قرار نیست این کتابو بخونه ولی اینقدر توی یازده سالگی از اون پلات توییست شوکه شدم، اونم وقتی حتی با عبارت پلات توییست و معنیش آشنا نبودم، که به احترامش هیچی نمی‌گم.
چون وقتی می‌دونی، دیگه نمی‌تونی نادیدش بگیری!

این بار که خوندمش فقط برای زنده شدن حس ۱۱ سالگیم بود. برای روزایی که توی دنیای کتابا گم می‌شدم. شاید روزایی که بتونم بگم بهترین و آروم‌ترین روزای زندگیم بودن؛ حداقل به نسبت آینده‌ای که در انتظارم بود.
این بار دیگه اونقدر هیجان زده نبودم. هم چون داستان رو می‌دونستم هم چون دیگه همسن و سال میا، شخصیت اصلی نبودم ولی قشنگ‌ترین بخشش اونجا بود که حسم سر خوندنش رو یادم میومد.
برگه‌ها هنوز همون بو رو می‌دادن و بهتم سر خوندن یه قسمتایی و هیجانم سر جاهای دیگه‌ش رو یادم میاورد.
وقتی کتاب رو بستم واقعا خوشحال بودم. به خاطر این که من ۱۱ ساله کتاب خوبی خونده بود. برای اینکه این کتاب رو، به وقتش خوندم.
و با اینکه الان برام اونقدر جذاب نبود می‌تونم بگم پلاتش به همون اندازه خوب بود و من به خاطر عمق لذتی که اونموقع ازش بردن بهش ۵ ستاره دادم.

I loved this book. I went into it expecting to hate it. (Honestly, though! That synopsis? YAWN). I thought it was gonna be your stereotypical girl goes to live with grandparents for vacation, she's absolutely distraught, because the place doesn't have internet, coming of age, stupid romance, yada yada yada. But it was LIZ KESSLER. So I had to read it.
Boy, was I glad I did! Everything I listed above? Despite the first chapter, it's not like that -- not at all. It was a mystery. But a fun one. The clues slowly appeared (at first, so subtley that it wasn't until later you realized they had been there), and throughout the book you're slowly putting pieces together, until... BAM! MIND. BLOWN.
Time travel. Never thought it could be accomplished in a way that left me satisfied and without questions. But it was. It was amazing. Fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyable cover-to-cover.

It's not that this was a bad read, I did enjoy it, but I found that it lacked flavor. The facts tended to be told instead of a story, and the plot itself is one that I've often heard. I loved Kessler's Emily Windsnap books when I was little, and perhaps it is in part that I simply grew out of her writing style.
