I’d like to start by saying that this book is quite thought provoking and I appreciated his candor throughout the book in depicting his struggles and vanity. His discussion of accepting grace and love for himself were moving.
I think the ideas acted upon in his Confession chapter are great for those attempting to show the love of Christ to those burnt by organized religion in the past.

His chapter on Money has convinced me to better budget my own and push myself to tithe again.
I appreciated the focus on love-oriented ministry within the church and outside with a primary focus on dealing with people’s needs and discussing Jesus afterwards.
“Creating an arts group at a church is a great idea.” (p 137) — I agree!!! Give artists an outlet and they’ll make something beautiful!
“At the end of the day, when I am lying in bed and I know the chances of any of our theology being exactly right are a million to one, I need to know that God has things figured out, that if my math is wrong we are still going to be okay. And wonder is that feeling we get when we let go of our silly answers, our mapped out rules that we want God to follow. I don't think there is any better worship than wonder.” (p 206)
Unfortunately I think Don Miller comes off as a bit of a misogynist and is slightly demeaning in how he talks about people from other faith traditions. He’s quite judgmental throughout the book to various groups I think in an attempt to seem grounded but it just comes off as rude. This is in contrast to how highly he speaks of those proscribing to no religion.
Additionally, there are serval points in the book where I caught myself actually rolling my eyes or scoffing at his writing. He has the capacity for beautiful prose but just as easily will fall into cliche and bad jokes.

I liked the book, overall well written and it’s fun to hear many of the anecdotes. I don’t agree with some of his remaining fundamentalist theological principles, but hey, it was 2003.
An amazing book with an incredible view of what Christian spirituality can and should be. Inspiring and challenging at the same time. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
This is a good, honest, fun-to-read, meandering story of one guy's journey to be an authentic Christian. It's rare for a Christian book to not feel "Christian", but it was great. Anyone could read this book and get something from it, no matter what religious background.
-pg. 250

A little crunchy granola for my taste, but I still liked it. The writing style was a bit uneven - sometimes beautiful, sometimes seemingly sophomoric. There were some emotionally moving lines and moments as well as some things that made me roll my eyes.
This is so good. I found many of the thoughts suggested to be true to my own. Donald Miller's writing style and ideas are easy for me to understand because I think a lot like him. His life events that he shared were highly amusing and I really connected to his tale about going to college. I recommend this book to any teen going to college, a new place, actually any teen, and adult. The ideas Donald Miller proposes really need to be heard by people who are "skeptic" of Christians. Also his opinion needs to be heard by "Christians" who are skeptic of anyone. It's good!
This book is for Christians and possibly for someone who is searching but I don't think that anyone else who has no intention of taking the God of Christianity seriously, will enjoy this book. That being said as a Christian I loved his insight and his ability to articulate things that I myself could not.
Very interesting reading this now with the knowledge that Donald Miller is a capitalist sell-out! Definitely stream of consciousness essays by a 30 year old white man, but there are some good thoughts in here
I loved every moment of this book!!! Don is an amazing writer and somehow managed to get out all of the same thoughts that I had always had about Christianity down on paper and published for the world to read!! A must read for anyone testing the waters with their faith!!! So good!
