This Man

3.5 AVERAGE

I had seen so many not soo great reviews about this book and was not really sure what to think. But I still decided that I should give it a try. Soo the story seemed pretty much the same. Rich hot guy and this helpless yet successful interior designer. The story took off from the get-go and was quite entertaining. Jesse the super controlling man who has some issues that I was quite keen to know about, In fact I think that was what kept me going as I really wanted to find out the story behind Jesse Ward.
There were moments where I thought the story was pointless, but I was really intrigued to find out the story. I didn't quite understand the usefulness of Sam or Katie in the story, but I guess it serves to distract.
I can't wait to find out what happens next. I can't deny it, I'm hooked!!!

3.5 stars...

I finally got around to reading this book. I just didn't love it like everyone else...I liked it though.

This is similar to a lot of stories. It's not bad but there is no individual growth, or growth as a couple. It's the same thing over and over.

Jesse fluctuates between loving and dominant but is always uber controlling. Ava tries to stand strong against his control but falls short just about every time.

Jesse is yummy. Thankfully Ava isn't an innocent Virgin. She has a backbone, but it is easily bent.

He won't tell her anything and when she accidentally finds out what the Manor really is…all hell breaks loose...

The End

For five days!!

Enough of him calling her lady. And make friends in reference to sex…is odd.

1. This isn't a romance

2. I spent the entire book thinking he was some kind of criminal and she was gonna get murdered so the ending was a surprise, I'll give it that

3. I can't believe this is marketed as a romance

4. No really wtf

5. This is hard to rate because it's a toxic dynamic but I feel like the author went out of their way to make it this messed up and that's impressive.

Warning: Maybe some spoilers, spoiler "-ish"

I can't believe I even finished this book. Actually I take that back, I was hoping for some redeeming quality but as I neared closer to the end I knew it wasn't going to happen. And then the book ended on a cliff hanger. No thanks.

First off, the book had some racism in it....Which come one really? Ava describes the body guard/bouncer...he's never really given a job title, as essentially a big terrifying black guy. Which black men are often portrayed as terrifying and mean. Women walk down the street see a black guy and will clutch their purses a little closer to them or cross the street. Over it. And then she describes some one as an "Arab man". Like just say she left to talk to another man. If race is the only description you give and it gives no substance to the plot then leave it out.

Ok after you get past that you have a girl fall in love with a guy she knows NOTHING about....like NOTHING. He is possessive, he is essentially physically abusive, he cuts her off from her friends and her job and must be with her 24/7 and when she tries to leave he goes into a rage. But she loves him??

And what's with the whole being caught up on his age? Every chapter she asks how old he is? And why? Again none of that contributes to the plot other than she knows nothing about this man that she is so in love with.

Sigh. Don't read it. Just don't. I'm literally shaking my head as I write this review.

I wanted to like this book, but it was too much fighting then makeup sex. Just was kind of ridiculous. May try book 2 to see if the writing is better.

Narrator Review: Edita Brychta did an excellent job with her narration. I had no problems distinguishing between characters. I would listen to more books she narrates.

Story Review:My favorite books are the ones that have a hero that knows what he wants and goes for it. So many books have the hero falling for the heroine and they don't realize it and even fight it to the end. While I can appreciate a book like that, for me, there is nothing better when the man fights for the woman from the start. You definitely get that with this book.

I read some reviews before starting this and there are a lot of readers who think Jesse is abusive. He's controlling and manipulative where Ava is concerned and I get that. I understand why some readers wouldn't enjoy that. I, however, like the controlling possessive men in my books. In a book, you already know going in they aren't psycho's and possibly need a restraining order. It's a book, so this allows me to not question if he is a psycho or if he just really loves a woman so much he will do anything he can to keep her in his life. Now, saying that, I couldn't help rolling my eyes every time he yelled at Ava for cussing, especially since he cusses. Yes, out of every controlling, manipulate thing he did to Ava, that was my biggest complaint.

On to Ava. I hate a spineless heroine and I'm afraid that's how she came off. Yes I like the dominant men, but I also like the woman to be just as strong. There is nothing more frustrating when a woman doesn't stand up for herself or at least communicate her issues. Most of his ridiculous behavior was her fault. Yes, I said it. She ran away with out communication. He had no idea what was going on. She didn't even have the decency to tell him she decided not to see him anymore. How many times do we flay a man for being such a coward?

So yes, I get why the reviews are all over the place but I got the one thing I love in a story so even though I have issues with some of it, it's still a 5 start read for me.

Going to wait to review after reading entire series..Loved it! May up to 5 stars after book 2 & 3?
