Jesse has no redeeming qualities. Really. He's an asshole and a control freak. This is not a romance, it's more like 2 crazy people who are obsessed in a psychotic, really unhealthy way.

And the story needed a good editing before it was published.

Wow. I cannot put into words how much I love this man… This must've been my bazillionth read of the series, and like every time, I’m on central Jesse cloud nine.

What’s the formula for getting yourself a fictional boyfriend?
  1. Obsessive, falls first, unapologetically unhinged for his woman?  ✅️
  2. Intense love story, with passion and tragedy?  ✅️
  3. A story so addictive it ruins all others with the level of its angst?  ✅️

Jodi Ellen Malpas doesn’t just write romance, she drags you through it, body and soul.

One thing that makes This Man so powerful is the symbolism woven into Jesse and Ava’s story. The Manor itself is more than just a setting—it represents Jesse’s past, his demons, his need for control. Ava walking into that world is the moment everything shifts for him. Then there’s the recurring theme of numbers—his obsession with keeping Ava safe, happy, and exactly where he wants her plays out in his rigid control over time (hello, central Jesse clock) and even his infamous countdowns. Love for Jesse isn’t just an emotion—it’s something he measures, something he owns, something he can’t exist without.

JEM has a way of writing that completely devours you. She creates men who live rent-free in your head and love stories that stay with you forever. This Man is the definition of a romance classic, a book that no matter how many times you read, still manages to own you.

This series is everything. No book has ever made me feel like This Man does. Except, maybe For You (I will never get over that one, thanks JEM)

Now, if you need me, I’ll be busy counting down the days until Jodi wrecks me with her next masterpiece.

Great book, even with Jesse being batshit crazy. I need more of his backstory though.

I was kind of disappointed when I read this book. Going into I was really excited to read because it was recommended to me because I read the fifty shades of grey series and beautiful bastard. I really liked the beginning, it seemed like it was going to be really intersting and then I got really bored. I was annoyed when he just wouldn't tell her his age, and when she was going back and forth with him.

4.5 stars!

This book is...I can't. I now understand what all the spectacle was about surrounding Jesse. He's impossible!

Jesse, to put it simply, is C-R-A-Z-Y! He's arrogant, demanding, controlling, and very possessive. He's also a complete mystery. For a long time I wasn't really sure what his intentions were for Ava. Was it all about the control? Sex? Or was it something more? I know a lot of people freaked out about his controlling/stalkerish ways (Trust me, I did too!) and even though I wanted to knock him out when he acted that way I can't help but feel like there's a reason he is the way he is, we just don't know it yet. Hell, nobody really knows who Jesse is, period.

Oh. And WTH is up with the whole 'not telling you my age' thing? It's irritating and makes me think he's like some old man with plastic surgery or something.

I liked Ava but I honestly feel like she has no self respect or something. Why does she let him control her life like that?! I hate the she becomes so weak and lets him manipulate her with sex. Honestly, at times I found her to be pathetic. I harsh I know! But I just can't help it. She needs to learn how to be in control, especially when he doesn't want her to.

Even though this book drove me crazy, I can't deny that it didn't keep my undivided attention. I'm addicted to Ava and Jesse's story and I really can't wait to find out what will happen next.

There are many things i enjoyed about this book but so very, very many that had me gritting my teeth. I have two main gripes. For a start the hero - Jesse - is very controlling to the point of obesessiveness; the author offers no viable reasons for this psycopahtic behaviour, except to assert that it is indeed over the top, but the fault is compounded by Ava's (the heroine's) inability to cope in an adult manner with Jesse's adolescent tantrums. She constantly gives in to his demands, thereby enabling him; she also gets stupidly hurt, over and over again, by Jesse's constant references to their sex life as fucking without ever telling him how she feels about it...and then getting annoyed when he doesn't change. Why would he? So, that's gripe one which is quite convoluted and has many flavours to it. Gripe 2 is the language - please, get an editor. 'Would of'; the plodding 'I did this', 'I walked there', 'I', 'I', 'I' - you can see I found this quite aggravating; several tense errors...okay, it's self-published and I have huge respect for any writer that is willing to put themselves out there, but editing is not the cherry on the cake, it is the binding agent that holds the whole thing together. Please, with all the wonderful comments you've had on your Amazon copy you've obviously sold loads of copies so please, pay someone to edit your work. It will enhance the reader's pleasure a hundred-fold.
If you can overlook these, and you enjoyed FSOG and Crossfire, then give this book a try.

I ask you in advance to please forgive my foul language. PS My review is also chock full of spoilers, though IMHO, there is nothing that I can possibly say that can spoil this book further. The author does a bang up job of tanking this book all on her own. And with that, my review:

Why in the world does this book have a 4+ star rating???? Who are you people giving this book anything more than 2 stars??? Frankly, I feel duped.

This book is horrible. Actually, it's beyond horrible. There are no words to describe it's horridness.

Every single character in this book is stupid and ridiculous. I'm frankly amazed that I finished it. I think part of me was just wondering where it was going. I was pretty sure she was going to end up pregnant since he's been hiding her birth control pills from hook-up one. YES, AVA. THAT IS WHERE ALL OF YOUR FUCKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS ARE GOING. HE IS HIDING THEM FROM YOU, YOU BIG DUMMY!!!

I'm still not sure why I finished this book. But now that I have, a few questions -- why in the world does Ava want to have anything to do with this crazy, control freak, stalker, lunatic? And why does he want to have anything to do with her dumb a$$? But then again,

He's a creep, you're a bitch, and you all deserve each other photo tumblr_m28vn7sZjD1qhbs8go1_500.gif

It's no big secret that he's running a sex club, not a hotel, you dipshit. I know you are young and all, and since you were born yesterday, here are a few tips about most hotels:

1. Most hotels don't have a giant, secured gate that requires a check-in before you can get to the front door. Even at the freakin' Waldorf, they just let you waltz right in.
2. Most hotels have a check-in desk or some shit and more staff than just a bodyguard, a bartender, and a lot of women who look like high priced call girls.
3. In most hotels, your boyfriend would not need a bodyguard to escort you everywhere you freakin' go.
The list goes on, but you get the general idea...

It was pretty clear from like the second visit that something wasn't right. That is, if you're not a complete numbskull and didn't pick that up on the first visit.

And I love that this is a three book series. What other ridiculousness can they squeeze into another 600 pages? Don't answer that. 'Cause you know what...

Dos Equis Man

This book questioned my sanity and those of whom gave it 4-5 stars. I rarely write reviews, especially bad ones. I think the writing itself was good, but the story, characters, storyline was... Unrewarding? Disturbing? Unfulfilling? I questioned how people who liked this found it rewarding in any way. I Couldn't stand either character, his behavior is everything I tell my daughter to stay away from. This is exactly the kind of guy who ends up being abusive and someone says I should've seen the signs. He wasn't redeeming, funny, Charming, Just HOT. SO WHAT? It's not hot for a man to treat you like a spoiled toddler. It's pathetic. Admittedly, I don't like books with sex scenes every chapter or two. I like love stories but this is erotica not romance. I wanted to quit every night, but wanted to see how it could be turned around since I had heard much about it. But in the end the book doesn't even have a happy ending? I gotta torture myself again to get it? very rare in romance world. So after that I wanted to give it 1- negative stars. I like alpha male characters, reasonably jealous, possesive guys, but this guy has problems. if you like your hero to be overly possessive, controlling, treats heroine like a child ALL the time and punishes her for disobedience by having sex with her...? if demanding, boring guys who are emotionally closed off then this is the book for you. I hope anyone in this kind of relationship doesn't think this is how someone who loves you should ever act. I'm actually angry after reading it, and I when they got into a fight I found myself cheering for the couple to break up.. First time I've ever felt like that!!

DID NOT FINISH: 33%

Woah, this relationship was not it for me. He was far too controlling and I barely even made it half way through. She also had no personality which was so sad because she sounded like a strong and intelligent woman. The controlling of everything she did was wrong and we barely knew anything about him. I wish we had more build up to their relationship before all the sex and controlling. Will not be going back to this at all.
