The middle spread, with the text, "And crossed a sea of moon jellies dancing." is hands-down one of the most gorgeous illustrations I have ever seen. Ever. I got tears in my eyes when I turned the page and saw it.
Good for sharing with a child who appreciate contemplating pictures and or abstract thoughts, is grieving the death of a grandparent, or really, really likes sea creatures and/or boats. So freakin' gorgeous.

Absolutely gorgeous book about a little boy remembering stories his late grandfather told him about where the ocean meets the sky. My child and I were both enraptured.
This is on my Caldecott shortlist for the year.

A very pretty book. My 4 year old enjoyed the story but didn't consider it to be a book about mourning/loss/grief - at one point he said "the boy has to get back to his grandfather" (and I guess he did see him again in a sense...)

I am going to treasure this gorgeous picture book, when I picked it up in a bookshop it just ‘stuck’ to my hands, no way was I leaving the shop without it! Absolutely beautiful pictures are complemented by a gentle, sensitive story about a young boy wanting to say goodbye to his much missed late grandfather.

What a beautiful book. Just like the Night Gardener, the illustrations are beautiful and draw you in to dream and gaze a bit longer.
This is a wonderful story of a little boy who falls asleep and dreams of going to heaven, or something of the sort, to see his grandfather, where the ocean meets the sky.

On what would have been his grandfather's 90th birthday, Finn honors him by building a boat and dreaming about where the ocean meets the sky, a magical place in his grandfather's stories. Sweet and beautifully illustrated.

Beautiful book! The pictures are gorgeous and the storyline is wonderful. A boy trying to be close to his Grandpa who recently passed. A great story for helping kids to work through the death of a loved one. They may be gone physically but they are with us in heart and mind. Love this book.
