Great, enticing short story but I wish she had turned this into a longer novel. Could have been just as addicting if she went into more depth.

More like 2.5 stars. I was excited for this quick read, being a fan of Flynn’s. It just didn’t meet my expectations. The set up for this story was wonderfully quirky, the main character is delightful. Not necessarily likable, but delightful none the less. This story really shines once things start picking up. The middle of this book is enthralling and captivating. So many questions are raised, I wondered as I read how everything could be comfortably resolved. I’m still wondering. The ending unfortunately felt rushed and tacked on. For me it squashed all of the anticipation the book worked so hard to build up. It was as if Gillian had multiple ways planned to end the book, and instead of choosing one she just incorporated them all.

This quick little read will not disappoint!

Lots of twists and turns. Once I finished the book I sat here thinking. 'What just happened?!?'

I really enjoyed the start of this, its a quick read (listen), but it was nearly ruined by the ending. It was just one twist after another and none of them felt very earned. The main character was basically a professional con artist, but she was quickly revealed to be exceptionally gullible  in a way that didn't quite make sense. Just a little corny, unfortunately, but it might just be my personal preference.

From the amazing author who bamboozled my mind with Gone Girl and Sharp Objects, I should have known I’d be left feeling..frazzled – I was feeling emotionally exhausted but not necessarily in a bad way - after reading this short novella.

Fans of Gillian Flynn would recognize her signature twists, just as you were about to sit comfortably and enjoy a dark armchair fantasy, she’d jolt you with the sudden deviations, centralizing POVs of unreliable narrators.

Despite the length (at less than 100 pages), the story had a pretty rich plot. A young woman, who was making a living by engaging in ‘benign’ frauds, took an opportunity to sell her services as a seer. A married woman sought her help with her house that she claimed was haunted. The customer introduced herself as Susan, and she seemed to be from a well-to-do family that our narrator judged would potentially be a boon to her service.

Things took a dark turn when she went to Susan’s house to ‘cleanse’ it off bad spirits.

I loved the twists in the book, and even though I knew to expect them, the way they went certainly caught me off-guard. If you’re looking for an engaging short read, pick up this one. You won’t regret it.
