I can get why some might find it a bit abrupt but considering the extension of this story, it kinda makes sense to me. I really liked the twist and it pulled me in a few pages in. I was seated and expectant of what was happening. I like the character of the unrepentant, bad, cunning woman that Flynn can deliver so well tbh.
I liked the tension and the mystery in this. I loved the twist too, and it had some great lines! Though the ending felt a little bit rushed.

✨the ending really derailed all enjoyment from this short story for me. I think it would have been more inventive if there was a different take on the ending, or the current ending could have worked if we were able to explore all the dynamics for a little longer

I remember reading this and thinking it was heading in one direction and being completely floored by how it actually ends up being.
I can't remember much else apart from the spiritual readings and being in that house with the stepson, mark this down as a need-to-revisit.

This only took an hour to read. It was a great little short story. I really enjoy Gillian Flynn’s writing. It is fast paced and twisty.
