Perfect short story. Funny and creepy - a young woman con artist meets a woman who needs her house cleansed of evil as it is negatively effecting her teenage stepson. The young woman goes to do this thinking she will make some quick money. It doesn't go that way - ending is open in that the reader must wonder who is telling the truth! Overall a very good story.

This book started out great—I was very invested. But by the end, I have no idea what the hell that was. Once again, I’m disappointed by this author because I honestly don’t know what she was trying to do, but whatever it was, it didn’t work for me.
It had such a nice premise, and I was really into it, thinking, “Ah, nice short story, I’m just waiting for the twist at the end”—but then… what even was that? What was the point? I don’t even have the words.
It felt like she wrote it, dumped it for a while, then remembered it one day and said, “Oh yeah, that story. Let’s just release it unfinished.” That’s exactly how it came across.
Because a short story can be meaningful. It can be wrapped up in a smart, satisfying way. This wasn’t.
I definitely was not expecting that ending,but what a fun read nonetheless. Definitely made you wonder who you should be rooting for...

5 star for a quick story with a suspenseful cliffhanger for a stand alone book. Flynn is so good at gripping you in with details but getting to the point at. Just. The. Right. Time.

this short story has a great opening line, and an ending that really didn't work for me. the beginning was classic flynn, i liked the turn that the middle of the story took but was ultimately let down by the ending. it was still an enjoyable quick read for a gillian flynn fix but i'm glad i got it from the library!
