I don't get why this was written to be honest and I did not enjoy it. I got this book recommendation off of TikTok. Of course. And it had been sitting on my t v r for the longest time I said, hey, I need to make sure this is short, perfect.Okay, but like what was the point I i'm truly asking, what was the point
Sam is a girl who grew up on the streets to make money. She works at a happy endings, massage career, and she gets moved up to be A. Terror card reader. She is here a card reading for this woman who thinks that her house is haunted. She offers to start cleansing the house. Really? It's just because this lady has a stepson that she doesn't get along with. So she thinks that the house is haunted and is like f****** up this kid. But really, I think this kitchen doesn't like her. Um, come to find out there's 1 day and the steps on grab. Bed Sam, and he's like, listen, my stepmom is about to kill you, and she's like, what are you talking about? He's like, listen, just kill me, and you? She wants to kill you because you've been giving my dad hand drops and she's like. Oh f***, that's not good. He's like, yeah, um, so he's like, let's get out of here now they get out of there. They are in Sam's car going wherever and he's like, hmm, that was a lie and she's like, wait, really, he's like, yeah, really, I wanted to kill you or I wanted to kill her or I told her you were bad or just kidding. I didn't tell her anything, but you just kidnapped me, literally the dumbest s*** So he's just going back-and-forth back and forth like you don't know, but I'm trying to say you don't know the real truth and she's like, yeah, so what's the truth and he won't say it. And so they get to a hotel, they're going to go to like Comic Con. Basically, and she's just like everything will be fine, and then it ends. Yeah, I feel like it was so f****** weird.I did not like it

i did not realize this was a short story when i started hahahahaha but also it was fine the ending was predictable because, oddly enough, i recently watched a movie that was strangely similar to this. unsure if i would have liked it if that didn’t happen.
Handjob expert turned psychic medium meets haunting at Hill House. Terrible ending but the rest was good and worth the quick read!
4 out of 5 stars for The Grownup.
First of all, this book was the first one I have downloaded and read through the OverDrive app, which is how my local library distributes Ebooks. It was easy to use the app, and link it to my library, and the reading experience and return of the book were all a positive experience. So, thumbs up to OverDrive! I'll definitely be downloading more books this way. : )
Okay, about The Grownup - Gillian Flynn knows how to go for the shock factor, and she does it in the first line of this short story. She went with a dirty angle for her shock factor which I thought was unnecessary for the story. I'm not prudish, but for me, it was kind of like: "why did she have to go there?"
Anyway, once that was out of the way, we get an entertaining and engaging story with a couple twists and turns. Flynn touches on the supernatural in this story, and as usual, she delves into the darkest part of society and the dark side of her characters' psyches.
I recommend The Grownup if you're a fan of Gillian Flynn. But, this is definitely not for kids- be ready for an inappropriate shock in the beginning.
P.S. I appreciated Flynn's nod to Wilkie Collins and The Woman in White, and to the book Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier!

I listened to the audiobook and when it ended I screamed, “no! I want more!” So that’s a pretty good summary of my enjoyment.
Great narrator, characters, and suspense. I didn’t know who to believe or what to think. The beginning was a little slow for me, but I appreciated the character development. I wanted a lot more at the end.

This one took me a minute to get into, but since it's so short, once I got into it, I read the whole thing.
God I really hope we get a full book outta this!!

This story was actually really amazing, until the ending. The ending is kind of a let down, and seemingly falls flat. But, the voice of the narrator is amazing, and after two pages I was eating out of the palm of her hands. Compelling, gripping, and creepy, this would have been undeniable with a different ending.
