Suspense was good but the conflicting twists were annoying. The story redeemed itself with the cliffhanger ending.

It was fine, a bit odd if anything. Hard to give a higher rating for a short story.

I expected more. Gillian Flynn is undoubtedly a talented author but this short story does not do her justice. There is only so much you can fit within a measly 64 pages and this book shows us that.
The plot is intriguing but its pacing seriously lacked. It needed far more chapters to delve into the narrative and to bring forth depth — especially towards the end with its lengthy strings of bewildered dialogue which alone could have made a great chapter but instead is left as an open ending with little satisfaction. I would love to see this fleshed out as I truly think this holds so much more potential.

WOW. This was a fun little snackable, the cliff hanger on this was so good. Gillian never disappoints.

Enjoyable, read in under a half hour (it's 60 odd pages long--shorter than a novella). I'm not sure why this got it's own edition. It was entertaining, but the stories twists and turns (such as they were) just seemed silly to me. I would have preferred a straight up haunted house story!
I think Flynn writes really well, but I'm not always interested in her plots (hated Gone Girl, liked Sharp Objects and Dark Places).

it was really good up until the ending. i’m not against open endings at all but i don’t really like the way it was done here. its a pity because i usually really enjoy flynn’s books, so i felt let down by the ending especially since the build up was great.
