Enjoyable, read in under a half hour (it's 60 odd pages long--shorter than a novella). I'm not sure why this got it's own edition. It was entertaining, but the stories twists and turns (such as they were) just seemed silly to me. I would have preferred a straight up haunted house story!
I think Flynn writes really well, but I'm not always interested in her plots (hated Gone Girl, liked Sharp Objects and Dark Places).

it was really good up until the ending. i’m not against open endings at all but i don’t really like the way it was done here. its a pity because i usually really enjoy flynn’s books, so i felt let down by the ending especially since the build up was great.
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Best season for reading: Any, but best for rainy dreary/scary weather
Risk of crying? 0/5
Unique aspects: Short story, cliffhanger, unsure of the truth
Synopsis: This is a short story with tons of twists and turns. It starts fairly sexually explicit, goes into an interesting con, then turns into a bit of a thriller where you don’t know who’s good, who’s bad, and… how it ends.
Review: I read the book in an hour. I wish there was a full length version!

Well, THAT was weird. It had an unsettling feeling to it as soon as the main character got to Susan's house. The beginning, however, was absolutely hilarious. Imagine giving 23,000+ handjobs in a year and ending up with carpal tunnel because you've done this for SEVERAL years. The descriptions of the MC's plight with carpal tunnel and how she ended up with it, and the backstory about how she ended up being such a good con artist, were definitely well worth the read.
The only thing I'm really not sure about is Gillian Flynn as a horror writer. Even with the way things ended, this is considered an attempt at horror, and while the tone was appropriate, the way it was executed was odd.
Either way, it was a lot of fun. The ending isn't as difficult to understand as people are making it:
Kid lies. Kid does a very good job of making sure the MC can't figure out exactly what he's lying about. MC decides, "WELP, I'M SCREWED ANYWAY, MAY AS WELL GO WITH IT." End story.
