The Grownup

Gillian Flynn

3.55 AVERAGE

This slim, twisty little novella is full of the classic unlikable heroine that readers of Gillian Flynn have come to know and love.

This story is a ghost story, told by an almost-psychic who is used to getting her way. She is hired by a woman with a haunted house, except haunted houses aren't real, there's always an emotional or behavioral explanation for these types of things-right?

I was immediately charmed and thrilled by this story and it rides out well, providing the twists and turns that make a thriller great. It might be a little too twisty for some, so come prepared for a bit of a thrill ride rather than a thoughtful slowburn. It's possible that Flynn is only good at this kind of protagonist, but I enjoy them so much that I don't really care.

This felt like watching a shitty but enjoyable Netflix show

Controversial subject matter, great read though

How is she such an amazing writer?! SO SO GOOD.

1- Gillian Flynn is an astonishing writer, the more I read her novels the more I love her;

2- this is a weird mix of haunted house + psychopathic teen/child + morally ambiguous decision making + rollercoaster of events and I really enjoyed it. Although it took a turn I did not expect.

Great short story. Can't wait for more works by Ms Flynn

I found this story to be underwhelming. It reads like a story proposal instead of an actual story. Could have been a great mystery - paranormal or not - but is instead confusing and unfinished.

This book was delightful with an ending leaving me wanting more. I guess books are for their readers. I'd love for this story to be developed more into a full blown book instead of a short story.
