A lot more legit Greek analogies, SPICY, and way better than the first book!

The Obession continues the story of The Initiation: Marist, born in riches, who strikes a deal with Macalister Hale to replace her sister's place in the secretive initiation ceremony that her crush, Royce Hale, must partake in order to become a board member.
I listened to this one on audio, same as the first book in the series.
This book was a lot weirder than the first one, and weirdly I think I liked it better. This book didn't focus as much on the actual romance, but more the twisted mind games of Macaclister Hale.
It's.. something alright.

As with the other Nikki Sloane books I have read, itβs wonderful storytelling. And amazing character depth. And thatβs what I struggled with. Macalister gave me the creeps and every scene he was in was made me phase and made getting through the story hard.

I loved The Obsession so much! For me, the cliffhanger from book one didn't upset me as much as others because I knew Royce had to be lying (would've been awkward if I was wrong lol). I knew their connection was real and it was a power move. I will say the cliffhanger at the end of this book had me scrambling to read book three. Nikki Sloane knew what she was doing with that ending π
In this book, I felt the tension with Royce and Marist. I'm a sucker for tension and moments that make your heart literally ache. The scene in the maze with the rain was perfect heartache. I just loved them in this book.
I want to talk about the quote I used at the beginning. When I read, I like to highlight various quotes, passages, spice, and other things. I do that so when I come back to do spot reads (less than a full reread) I can go back to the specific parts.
Something else I like to do is keep a list of quotes from shows, movies, books, etc., that stood out to me. I have a running list in the notes app on my phone with an array of quotes that hit me in the feels (ex: "We love rainy days, don't we baby?" from The Ravenhood series π). When I read The Obsession, the quote above made it on my list and it's still there! I can't explain why, but it gave me all the feels and still does π₯°
