Looking forward to exploring some of Anna May's films after reading this! She is such an interesting figure, a real trailblazer who carved out a career. The author clearly adores her subject and writes of her fondly, so much so that I almost feel we lose a little in the telling, some more impartial critique would have been welcome.
I do also think this book is overlong - we get so much detail on figures Anna May meets and plot descriptions of films that it does bog the book down a bit. I wanted slightly less of that and more direct quotation from Anna May herself, but this was engaging and a super easy read.

This book was incredibly slow and although well researched, it was very factual and read more like a school history book. I wanted to finish it, but I was so bored that I found myself dreading reading it further.
