"He focused his whole attention on her, like she was an opposing defensive back he'd been tasked to block."
"Sloan laughed, a light musical sound that flowed through the phone and straight into his soul."
"Being with her like this felt like nirvana in the dust."
"He was a man of few words, but in this instance his thoughts were easy to read on his face."
The slow burn and tension between August and Sloan was written so well, as the reader you could feel the yearning and the connection between them. The attraction / small hidden moments in the story between them was so cute and filled with love. I truly loved how their connection felt real and personable. This is such a fluffy cute story.
As always I love when authors are able to incorporate serious themes in their fluffy stories and this author did an amazing job with incorporating the fears / hesitancy of gentrification from community members, gender dynamics within the bakery business / customers, family strains / family expectations impacting current / past events and more. This book highlighted the importance of knowing you audience in the communities you plan to build in and bring them up as well in your efforts.
I also like the close connection Sloan has with her brother Donovan, and that their relationship never wavered and that the constant support they give one another and push one another to reach greatness felt so heartfelt. Sloan was willing to listen and understand, and receive wisdom from her brother on how to make sure she approached love with open arms instead of fear. Which really hit close to home.
Lastly I truly love and adore the botherhood between Donovan, August, and Nicholas, every scene all three of them were together was hilarious and perfect. To the serious moments all the way to the funny moments, their closeness and sense of protection of one another was astounding.

I’m so disappointed that I didn’t like this book because I actually enjoyed the first book in the sugar blitz series; Fake it Till you Bake it. There were just so many parts of this book that rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t like the main female character. I felt like she was a liar, selfish, and manipulative. She seemed to always get her way but came off very rude. The couple had messy beginnings which I can take it or leave it but they didn’t feel wholesome to me. The thing that annoyed me most was the double standards of actions by the female characters in the book. A lot of times August was treated inappropriately and no one really stood up for him. Also the dialogue was sometimes weird and some things characters said didn’t seem realistic or made any sense at all. I don’t know anyone who says food porn outside of the Internet space. I do think there were some cute scenes and I did have a few laughs but overall didn’t enjoy the book.

BIPOC Romance in which a social media maven and a cupcake-baking football player find themselves working together only to have their old feelings and attractions reawaken.
4/5 stars: This is the second entry in Wesley's Fake It Till You Bake It series which is a BIPOC Romance that follows a cupcake-baking football player and a social media maven, who just so happens to be his best friend's little sister, find themselves working together after he goes viral and she needs a project to help her land a new job only to have their decade old feelings and attractions to reawaken with a vengeance. The two are forced to reconsider what it means to take a risk and chase your dreams. Told in dual POV with flashback chapters, Wesley's writing and character work are excellent; the characters are well-rounded, complex and yet remain likable. Sloane and August are both great characters and I enjoyed seeing them dealing with their personal and family issues and finally come together and earn their HEA. The romance is top notch with plenty of swoony banter and the OPS sex scenes are incredibly steamy and very hot. Additionally, Wesley's humor hits just the right spot. While there are plenty of heartfelt and lighthearted moments, Wesley does takes on some sensitive subjects; so take care and check the CWs. This can be read as a stand-alone, but if want to read the series from the beginning; so be sure to pick up book one, [b:Fake It Till You Bake It|58724876|Fake It Till You Bake It (Fake It Till You Bake It, #1)|Jamie Wesley|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1646650999l/58724876._SY75_.jpg|93105599].
