This was a heartwarming tale that read almost like a Pixar movie to me. The characters were very three dimensional. My biggest gripe was the narrator of the audiobook whispers half this book and made it hard to hear while driving or running outside.
Uhhhhhh I don’t really know.
Throughout this whole book I was just confused. There are so many different characters, all in which are introduced at the same time. I found it hard to follow who was who. So when the “twist” of how the grandmother knew each character wasn’t as significant.
I don’t even remember how this book ended or really anything about it (and I only read it a few weeks ago). I really hoped I would like this book, but clearly I did not.

This was definitely a cozy read, following Elsa on her journey of losing her grandmother in the way only a girl as smart as she is—maybe even too smart for her own good—could. I found myself laughing multiple times and loved seeing how one girl became the glue that held her people together, creating a community (or castle) where everyone cared for one another. I adore Backman’s writing, and this is yet another great read by him.

What a touching, heartfelt story! I enjoyed this greatly. This struck a great balance of humour and emotion. And there were a great many emotions to be had and explored. I thought this dealt really well with grief and loneliness, I loved the exploration through not only Elsa but all of our side characters too. Let’s just say, that house was filled to the brim with trauma. And I did cry…multiple times. But it was pretty cathartic.
I just couldn't get into it😭 Try again in a few years!!
