It took me a while to sit down and read this because I've been so busy. And once I started, it didn't really suck me in. I guess it's a good story and an interesting premise, but something about the writing style didn't speak to me. I have another of this author's books I bought at the same time...so we shall see if it's the writing style or maybe just this story. It wasn't bad, but it definitely was not one of my favorites.
This book dragged on, and while I love a good child narrator/POV, I found a lot of these characters including Elsa too quirky even by Backman standards. I was specifically frustrated by how much chocolate these people were feeding a dog; is this a Swedish thing??

Read this book. Read it now. It is phenomenal. I can't remember the last time I felt such an array of emotions at once while reading a book. There is so much depth to each of the characters. The story flows beautifully. Everything in this book is perfect.
Haven’t cried so much in a book in a good long while.
I enjoyed getting to hear this story from the point of a child, and found myself relating to Elsa in many ways. Backman again with fabulous storytelling.
