My favourite of the trilogy thus far. Pines was a lot of world building and context setting. This follow up was exciting and we got some concrete answers to better understand Wayward Pines.

He should have killed the creator dude when he had the chance. They are in a bad situation. I also called that little twist so early and It will be interesting to see how that works out.

The definition of a page-turner! Getting back into the world of Wayward Pines after book 1 was so fun, and I feel like Blake Crouch managed to keep the mystery and tension so thick through this second installment even after we found out the major plot twist in book 1. The setting and plot are the standout elements of this book for me; I do find the characters a bit one-dimensional, but honestly the end of this book set up for what could be some really juicy character moments in book 3. I think this is a great series to binge through if you want something fast-paced, unpredictable, and entertaining!

Another solid entry into the Waward Pines trilogy.

Where Pines was moreso a mystery and classic thriller, Wayward is interesting in that you know most of the answers going in. The world is understood and new mysteries have to be introduced.

The central mystery itself isn't extremely engaging and is sort of formulaic, as is a B plot that gets introduced and followed up on throughout the book. I found myself far more interested in Ethan's character development, continuing to be unsure of his place in this new world he found himself in.

My biggest critique of this book is that it simply ends. The main conflict of Ethan's loyalty is resolved, but the ramifications of the decisions end in an extreme cliffhanger. Whereas the first book you could sort of infer what might happen and it would work as a standalone novel, there's no such ending here. It demands a third book.

Still enjoying this quite a bit and will be reading the third soon.

DID NOT FINISH

Didn’t love the first book. Thought I’d try the second. Just couldn’t get into it
