This was my first book by the author, as my friends kept recommending her older ones.
I quickly learned that Just Last Night is quite a bit different, and not just a romantic comedy, but also a book about death, loss, friendship and old problems.
I must confess I had a hard time getting into this one. At first the circle of 4 friends just didn't click with me. Their way of drinking, partying and joking around didn't feel like something I'd like to join, but rather made them feel superficial and shallow. Especially one early scene had me doubting I would enjoy the book.
However, you should never judge people on first glance, should you? Right at the start one of our friends dies, and we then get to read the aftermath of losing one of theirs. The handling of the whole situation does start to shine a light deeper into the characters, and you discover hidden depths and traits. And after about 1/3 I found they somehow had weaseled their way into my heart and I did care for them.
I especially liked that this book has a strong friendship at the heart. I wish there were more books were strong bonds don't always have to be romantic. Yes, there is romance in here, but actually it is more a sidestory and not the focus. I loved it.
If you are looking for something sweat and easy, this will not be the best choice.
If you are in for something that goes deeper, and has fun and jokes, but also a realistic handling of grief and loss, then this is a great choice!

I didn’t think the characters were super likable, but I still thought the book was pretty good.

This one confused me! I generally try to go into books as blind as possible. I didn’t know the plot, but had heard good things. All I knew is that there was an aspect of romcom in it. Because of that I was so lost when a character’s death happens early on and is the basis for a good portion of the plot. Once I had my footing, I really enjoyed it. I didn’t predict this plot right away. It took me a while to figure out where it was going.
The first half is a lot of grieving. The second half is where the romcom comes into play. Overall, an enjoyable and unexpected read.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a second chance romance between Ed and Eve, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the end game couple was Eve and Finn . I will say that the romance is not the main plot, so if you are going into this thinking that’s what this will be, you may be disappointed. But I still enjoyed this! Books about grief will always be my favorite, even if the only “close” person I’ve lost in my life so far was my childhood dog. I thought the writing was really well done and the grief was tackled in a really splendid way. A part of me wishes this was longer and had more of the romance in it, but another part of me loves it the way it is. I liked this book either way!
