Christmas cash-in. None of the humour of the earlier books and the world is losing its magic. If you're going to pastiche a Victorian travelogue, then it has to be funny!

Fairly short book with explanations of the towns and station of the Discworld, the populations who live in them and the types of things you can do if you visit. A good companion to the Discworld books fleshing out the background of life there a little. Not as funny or insightful as the rest of those books but gentle and rather nice. It would have been enjoyable to travel further afield in anther book, perhaps to Klatch or Howandaland, when Mister King expanded the railway further into the Discworld.

Ha yes, it was a lovely DW companion book.
Explaining everything you need to know about the railway and the many destinations.
Lovely illustrations as well.

Another bittersweet read for me. Reading it while awaiting news of my Achille.

This didn't make a big impression on me. But I think I read it when I was back home for my dad's funeral, so it was just distracting me for a couple of hours.

3.5 stars. I listened to the audiobook production of this and it really impressed me. I couldn't imagine physically reading this with its repetition and guidebook style writing. The narrator however (Penelope Keith) was cast perfectly; she sounds like a Mrs. Bradshaw. The sound design is what really pulled me in though. I listened to the majority of this while waiting for buses and let me tell you I felt like I was in a grandiose train station, or a small farming town, wherever the railway took me. They have someone voicing the train announcer that yells out the stops you visit with the appropriate ambiance and it's very charming. Would listen again, but probably skip over all the accommodations and whatnot. They really didn't need to write that much about the 8th most popular hotel lodging in Big Cabbage.
