Characters: 3.5/5 - At first, I strongly disliked all the characters. I thought the classmates were all terrible bystanders, and Adachi was completely unlikeable, and Yano was just confusing? Annoying? But as I went on with the book, I realized, these characters are more realistic than the ones I've ever read about. Adachi was so concerned with fitting in, with not being weird, he was abandoning himself. I forget that I did that too. I didn't want to be orchestrated, to be the odd one out. But at the end of the book, where he goes, good morning, that was some great characterization. However, I do wish that I had gotten more info on the other characters. Like Modorikawa, and Kasai, even Noto-Sensei. I wonder about Yano and Midorikawa's friendship. I wonder how Kasai and Adachi even became friends. I'm curious who was breaking into the school (though I can assume Kasai) and what they hoped to accomplish. I wonder why Midorikawa believed he was a "bad guy".
Plot: 3.5/5 - The plot was alright, though I found the pacing a bit off. I would've liked more at the end about the aftermath of Adachi's good morning. Aside from that, the plot was rather interesting. I was curious the entire time about Adachi's character devolvement, wanting him to change. I quite liked that this was a more character-based plot, as I don't often get those.
Style: 4/5 - Okay, at first, I strongly disliked the style. And the thing is, I'm not huge on 1st person perspective, but as I read, I began to enjoy it more and more. It felt like a diary, and as though I was traveling right alongside Adachi. And as this book isn't filled with overtly pretty lines, it was nice and easy to read. Additionally, when it did have particuallraly pretty lines, they stood out even more, and often took the form of dialogue, making the lines seem even more alive. Sumino's style brought across Adachi's feelings and turmoil, reminding me of myself, connecting me to his character. It made it easy to sympathize, to figure out how his character wored.
Conclusion: 3.5/5 - And lastly, the conclusion. It felt rushed, however, I quite liked the character development and Adachi's good morning. It wasn't a long announcement to his classmates, but two words, despite the fact that he might get orchestarted. He was confident, and he was finally able to be himself, not a person without any opinions.
