Disturbing but brilliant. One girl's fall into the world of drugs. Scary and completely honest.
I can see teenagers becoming obsessed with this book. It has the brutal, not-a-single-detail-left-out sort of truth that teens crave. The entire story is written in poetic verse, which I really didn't expect to like as much as I did The verse flowed extremely well and made the book a quick read. I didn't realize until I opened the book to start reading it that the author based the book off her own daughter's addiction to crystal meth-- a fact which made the story feel so much more real to me.
I'm not sure I'll read anymore of her books (it's the intense/depressing sort of story that I think you really need to be a teenager to read) but I'm really glad I read this one, and I definitely recommend it to teens.

~Hers is the face I wear,
treading the riptide,
Fathomless oceans where
good girls drown.~
~a steady beat of an
emptiness
So complete I had
No clue how to fill it,~
~"I love you, let's see other people."
Interesting
sentence structure.~
~ These new friends...are they...okay?
Why couldn't she just say
what she meant, ask if they'd led
me down the path to hell.~
~Have you ever once in your life
reached out to touch infinity?~

I first read this book all the way back in 8th grade and decided to re-read Hopkins’ books as an adult.
The best part is the way this book is written. It’s truly an ~experience.~The poems themselves dive deep into Kristina/Bree’s innermost thoughts while the pictures the prose makes up add extra context or insight.
This is a great read. It’s all things at once — sad, happy, hopeful, melancholy, etc. It doesn’t read like some devotional warning about the dangers of drugs. It reads like the mind of a 17 year old girl who is way over her head.
