Meh. While I see merit to this book, I feel there are others that get the point across a bit better. I think that some tweens/teens will find the verse-style off-putting.

Heartbreaking but good. Not appropriate for middle schoolers though....
I wasn't sure if I'd like this book, as I don't usually read free verse, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I could barely put this book down.

One of my favorite books of all time. Quick read, and I love the way she writes.

It's an outstanding story. A good cautionary tale. I got pulled in to wondering where the Monster would go. However, I was not a fan of the poetry style, I thought it would have been equally good in prose style. And I was also not hooked to read further in the series.
