I feel for this family because I have BEEN this family. My own parents have struggled with substance abuse for many years. To see it all on paper was almost too much.

I've enjoyed this book every time I have read it. I just read it for the third time for my book club on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2222060458066636

A fast, intense read.

Ehhh, I'm still unsure how I feel about this book. I like the premise but the main character isn't very believable. She doesn't seem real. She seems desperate and stupid and not fully realized. The climax is kind of a wtf? and then it ends.

such a good book.

When this first arrived I was a little daunted by the thickness, but since it is in verse it isn't as long as it seems. I liked the format a lot, especially the physical layout of some of the poems/chapters. I think the verse format gives it more power; it takes away all the extra bits and you get just the heart of the matter. The content of the book is strong as well. Having known several people involved with crank (or simply "meth", as I've always heard it called) and seen what it can do, this really hit home. Meth is a very popular drug out here in Phoenix (as it was in Las Vegas) and, whie on the ambulance, I saw first-hand the long-term effects of it. Sad. And scary. This book captures it well. I'm definitely now interested in more of Hopkins work.

I have a hard time giving this more than 3 stars because of the subject matter but it was a lightning fast read.

I haven't read a book of poetry in forever, and I was an English (and History) double major. I'm really glad I picked this book up on recommendation from someone else on Goodreads. It was a great read and it provided insight into the drug scene that I never thought I had. I do have an addictive personality, and I feel reading this book really helped me understand that side of me, even though it doesn't express itself in the same way as for the characters in this book.

Anyway, I'm rambling, and I feel like this should be written in a pattern. Just read this book or any of the others in the series, all of which are probably just as great.

cute for a re-read, definitely had no business reading this in 7th grade but s a middle school classic in my mind

This was a little too sad and real for me. The main character is a teen who ends up addicted to crystal meth after being influenced by a boy. I felt like her parents failed her by not intervening.
