It took me a while to finish, but it was good.

I read a lot of young adult fiction but this was not for me. I could not relate to anything the characters were going through (I consider myself lucky for this fact). I'm sure this is an excellent story for someone who has experienced these things. While it isn't my cup of tea, I could see how others might enjoy it.

this is the heaviest read of 2017 so far. i've finished it and i'm sitting here with a heavy heart and a depressing pit in my stomach. 'Crank' is such a powerful work and i strongly advise everyone of any age to pick it up sometime in their life. it's one of those books that will stay with you forever and the message burns itself into your being.

Rereading this now that I'm older. I feel like I have more of an understanding and I can appreciate it more!

This book reads like a very long poem.

I've never read anything quite like this. Written in free verse with the words meandering on the page, i really enjoyed the experimental use of format and poetic style. When format choices coincide with character arcs, story themes and tone, I tend to appreciate the overarching story much more. I really do cherish art that is divisive, intrusive and real.
While I didn't like the choice she made to keep her baby, I'm glad that this book chose to show the audience that quick fixes (such a band-aid baby) which refuse to address the underlying issue won't solve the problem. The realism of the final page was quite haunting.

pretty mid - I probably would have gone crazy for it when I was a kid but tbh it's just an older version of pointless dramatic story telling. oh and
she should have gotten in abortion <3
and lastly I want my parents to read this book and remember all the times they accused me of doing drugs for just like existing as a normal teenager and compare it to the main character who was actually doing drugs
