A rather thrilling read and a brilliant end, although admittedly heart-breaking. I think that this is a great adventure story for Dino lovers and those who have a thirst for exploring. It has brilliant and engaging action and description of the world that these discover and travel through.

I've always loved the Sherlock Holmes stories, and I found that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's excellent writing didn't disappoint me in this unrelated adventure. The characters are vibrant and enjoyable, and the plot steady and well-fleshed but always exciting.

I thought it would just be a story about dinosaurs but it ended up being really racist. And all of the characters were pompous gasbags.

This is a very well-written and engaging novel but does have the problematic elements of its time and, indeed, genre.

The novel is gripping and suspenseful and you share in the sense of discovery that the main characters experience. It is a fun read but the contexts of the time should certainly be considered and critiqued as part of the reading journey.

This book, while slightly racist and sexist in some places, was for the most part enjoyable. I picked it up for the dinosaur aspect and also because it's by the author of Sherlock Holmes and it gives in both areas so I was pleased with that.
Overall, it's a fun read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - not at all what I expected and a fabulous read!

An interesting plot (although most of the science is out of date but okay, it was like 1912 when this came out) that's well written but battles it out with old-timey racism and British colonial superiority. So it falls in the middle of the rating scale.

It's exciting for sure, but it's not that great.

To quote Doyle himself: “If in 100 years I am only known as the man who invented Sherlock Holmes, then I will have considered my life a failure.”

Awkward.
