Whew finally I finished this. Honestly, I much prefer the first book to this one. I mean, sure, we finally got some world-building about the Republic and the countries outside of it. I especially liked how the Colonies, which had been described as so much better than the Republic, turned out to be a capitalistic hellscape. However I absolutely cannot stand the horrible love triangle between Day, June and Tess. And I’m not even going to include Anden in this because no. I mean seriously how do you go about establishing a sibling platonic bond between two characters in the first book and then have the audacity to have the younger girl have a crush on him. And then Day saying that yeah we could make a great couple???? NO!!! Now, do I think that Tess raised some valid concerns about June? Sure, if we don’t include slutshaming her for dollowing the Patriots’ plan. But still. Also Day is dying??? He gave up on June?? What is happening in the House of Commons?? Anyway, I am still going to finish this series because I am not a quitter.
