It took me a while to get into this book, but the action in the second half is definitely worth it. I loved all of the politics between the Republic, the Colonies, and the Patriots. However, the book would’ve been so much better without all the relationship drama and love triangles. Introducing Tess as a love interest out of nowhere was completely unnecessary and detrimental to her character imo, and Day and June work so perfectly together that introducing any rivals for either of them just doesn’t work. I also wish we got to spend more time in the Colonies to fully explore the capitalist hellscape that it is - there’s so much potential for worldbuilding there and creating a society that is completely different to the Republic but equally as terrible.

The last couple of chapters hit me like a bus - I knew everything had turned out too perfectly and something was about to go wrong. I need to read the final book in the trilogy right now.

Whew finally I finished this. Honestly, I much prefer the first book to this one. I mean, sure, we finally got some world-building about the Republic and the countries outside of it. I especially liked how
the Colonies, which had been described as so much better than the Republic, turned out to be a capitalistic hellscape.
However I absolutely cannot stand the horrible love triangle between
Day, June and Tess. And I’m not even going to include Anden in this because no. I mean seriously how do you go about establishing a sibling platonic bond between two characters in the first book and then have the audacity to have the younger girl have a crush on him. And then Day saying that yeah we could make a great couple???? NO!!! Now, do I think that Tess raised some valid concerns about June? Sure, if we don’t include slutshaming her for dollowing the Patriots’ plan. But still. Also Day is dying??? He gave up on June?? What is happening in the House of Commons??
Anyway, I am still going to finish this series because I am not a quitter.

This second installment in the Legend series followed June and Day on the run, collaborating with the Patriots rebel group, and discovering secrets about the Republic and its politics along the way. I actually liked this book better than the first one because it had deeper political intrigue and more realistic relationship conflicts, both between the two protagonists and with the supporting side characters who would question what they were doing. While the first book made them look like typical incredibly skilled despite being young YA protagonists, this one showed that they are still flawed and are not invincible as they faced challenges and hurdles. I still would've enjoyed this series a lot more when I was in middle school but I am still curious to continue the series and see how it all plays out.

A little saddened about how difficult I found it to get into the beginning of the book but once I passed the halfway point I was very much captured again.

Alot of this book stressed me out with the questioning of loyalties and uncertain behaviour from characters but it made it all the more interesting.

I am intrigued by the introduction of Anden as a character and am hoping he is as good as he seems. I am slightly irked by his attraction to June given his age when she is only 15-16 but I do appreciate his calm demeanour.

That ending ripped my heart in two and I am bracing myself against the events of the final book in the trilogy, I truly hope June and Day are able to thrive and prosper.
