Lunaria is the story of Amira, who lives a miserable life under the cold and calculating gaze of her father, the Royal Merchant of the Kingdom. Her only solace is her friend Opal - until Opal is taken away to be married off and soon after Amira follows, headed to the royal castle to secure a match for herself.
What follows is the usual Pretty Woman montage and a lot of secrets and politics. There is the friend who has lied to Amira for a long time, there is the hot, sexy villain with his own agenda, there is the maid who is clearly more than just someone there to put makeup on Amira and teach her to walk on heels.
The book could have benefited from having an editor to both tighten up the first third, and to fix the confusing writing style. There would be dialogue and right after, the reaction from a different character than the one who spoke. I had to read over and over to figure out who was speaking and wished the author's keyboard had an Enter key to separate dialogue from reaction.
The story itself is interesting, there is a very intriguing dynamic between Amira and her two possible suitors, and the various twists and turns of the plot - including The Twist - kept me entertained and looking forward to the next book.

I don’t know where Kara Douglas has been hiding but I’m so glad she gave us this book/series!! Absolutely stellar writing, world building, and storytelling!
This first installment introduces us to our sassy FMC Amira, and the world she’s been living in, and we get the background we need on how she’s been raised! I loved the banter and the friendships in this book, and the sloooow burn began! There are secrets, mystery, fake dating, and male jealousy! I loved the shocking plot twist at the end that introduced more mystery!!

5 ⭐️ the writing of this book is just perfection. I felt the story was really nicely paced and loved it didn’t feel rushed. Lu’s life at camp was given an appropriate amount of time in order for us to get to know her in her current situation. Too often it is glossed over in order to get to the main part but I felt like it was perfect. Can’t wait to read the next book.
This book is absolutely amazing. 12/10. I’m beyond excited for #2!
I loved this romantic fantasy that was stuffed to the brim with detailed imagery. There was never too much or too less, always just the right amount of description to make me feel like I was watching a movie. I could so vividly see the scene of Amira under the floorboards, the dust and dirt filtering through, with the heavy footsteps above her head.
And do not even get me started on Graylen “Please. Finish that sentence.” Garriden. I laughed, I grieved, I squealed like a school girl at Graylen, and I stayed up until 3 am to finish this book. I need book two. Now. Thank you very much.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings are my own.

Another DNF. I really couldn’t understand the premise. FMC has a terrible life and longs for freedom away from the training camp where she lives…because daddy makes her go grocery shopping every day?
Clearly I’m oversimplifying here, but I found the characters boring, their motives were vague AF, and I simply wasn’t interested enough after 40% to finish the story.

Absolutely STUNNING! I devoured this and am already craving more of this story, these characters, and this world. If you like YA fantasy in the slightest you HAVE to read this...and then immediately message me about it so we can discuss!! lol
