Okay sooooo
I went into this blind. I remebered seeing someone post about liking this book and then I found it in the romantasy section on a stuff your kindle day and obviously got it.
The premise is that this girl, Amira Ramsey, spent her entire life basically locked up doing chores at a military camp. Her father is in charge of everything in her life and she has no freedom to do anything she wishes, only his bidding. He finally decides he’s let her go unmarried for too long and she is thrust into a match making event at the royal castle to find a husband. Someone she thought she knew turns out to not be who they claimed to be, and she also ends up making a deal with the dark and brooding right hand man of the prince.
It’s an interesting premise, don’t get me wrong, and I found it enjoyable to an extent, but I got my first ick pretty quickly when I realised it had a love triangle…. My second issue with this book is that the fantasy elements really aren’t present at all, like not even hinted at until about 85% of the book? For a book labled as fantasy I found that very dissapointing…. And then my third issue, the plot twist in the end was so out of the blue that I couldn’t even have begun to guess it, and that’s not a good thing. It’s one thing to make a plot twist that was hard to guess but going back you can see the signs, and one thing to just throw a plot twist into a story where nobody could’ve seen it coming. The last like 5% of the book was so fast-paced and so unfitting to the rest of the story that I just did not feel satisfied at all with the ending.
Now, the reason I’m rating this 2.5 despite all of this is very simple. This is the authors debut book, and some pacing issues are to be expected. I never judge debut books as hard, and even though I had my issues with this I still kind of want to know what happens in the next book!
It’s been a week since I finished Lunaria and I am still thinking about it. Kara’s debut novel is absolutely stunning. The writing is beautiful from the floral imagery and elements of nature to the world building. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat and by the end, I was hooked.
This novel gives me Throne of Glass and Reign vibes. It is the perfect romantasy and a breath of fresh air. The way she brings the story together is fantastic and includes all of the best tropes. Fake dating, strong FMC, slow burn, rival kingdoms, discovery of powers and more.
I am so looking forward to the second book and all it brings. I can’t wait for the continuation of Amira’s journey and where it takes her!
Highly recommend this read! One of the best novels I’ve read in a while!

Inconsistent characterization and worldbuilding, the details presented are contradictory and confusing.

THIS. BOOK. IS. PERFECT. That’s it. That’s the review.
Kidding, but I truly love this book so much! The attention to detail, the world building, and the character development is written beautifully!
I felt a lot of emotions while reading this book. There was a lot of sadness, quite a bit of anger, times where I felt giddy/hopeful, and then the book took a turn that absolutely wrecked me. And once I was wrecked, it took a hard right turn and absolutely shocked me!
You’re going to want to have book 2 available immediately after finishing Lunaria, because you’ll be frantic with finding out what happens next..

I wasn't sure for the first bit of this book how I felt. I liked the main character and her personality as she's the kind of tough, warrior like woman I enjoy reading about. She's making the best of her circumstances given an oppressive father and constantly being treated as a servant.
Things really start moving a little farther into the book. We meet lots of characters and there's a lot of mystery about who we can or can't trust. I really like how that element of the book was played, the subtle character hints and growing understanding was fun to read.
For a fantasy book, we didn't really encounter much fantasy in this book, but based on how it turned out, I suspect that will not longer be the case and we will have plenty to see in the future.
This ends on a pretty steep cliffhanger. I'll be starting book 2 immediately.

Finished in one day!!
All I can say is WOW! I was feeling all the emotions with this one!
The beginning starts off with quite a bit of world building and goes pretty in depth with introducing you to the characters. I feel this is important though to get a good understanding of the FMC and why she is the way she is. The ending. HOLY SH*+!!! Let’s just I wasn’t expecting that! And then when I was like wow! That was shocking. BAM! Another shock. And then another. And another.
The only reason I took a star off is because I felt the dialogue was a little confusing when trying to decipher *who* said it.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for #2 in this series!

This book was just magical!
Initially, I wasn't a fan of the book because the first 35% was overly descriptive and drawn out. It definitely could have been condensed because of how repetitive it got. But in saying that, it also helped set the scene into Amira's life and the world around her. That initial slowness did have a lot of world building.
Once you get past that initial 35%, the book is action-packed. It's mysterious. The characters are intriguing and not what they seem.
I could not put it down. It was a page turner, and I needed to know more.
It did end on a cliffhanger, and I'm immediately diving into the next book!
