Not going to lie, I'm not used to dark romances, but I found this to be totally my jam. Though, this was a bit too short and it didn't allow for the proper development. Everything was a bit too glossed over and I wanted to see Ember's transformation to be something magnificent but either time/page constraint, or the writing, did not allow for that.
Most of the men could also have been really interesting but again, they were not properly given the time for the reader to actively care for them and overall, there was not enough finesse for the ambiance of the book to shine through.
I'd say that it was a decent read, with an incredible potential, and that, at least, it opened my eyes to the power of dark romance. I enjoyed how twisted and bloody everyone was. I wish I could rate it +4 but alas, the pacing and character development, while there, was not strong enough in my opinion.

I loved this book! I read this book as part of a buddy read with my friend. We went in blind and never expected it to be so good!
This book follows Ember and her fight for survival. After visiting the circus as a child, Ember is gifted a calling card from the mysterious Hilda, with instructions to use it when she needs help. Surviving her brutal husband over the years leaves Ember a shell of a person. After one brutal evening, he leaves her locked up and left for dead. Clutching her calling card in her bloody hand, her time finally comes in the form of four dark, handsome, and complicated circus performers who would do anything to keep her safe and kill anyone who hurts her. Together, they bring Ember back to life and allow her to take revenge and bask in her own darkness as their queen.
Having read and enjoyed Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight, I had preconceived ideas of what this book would be like. However, the story was beautifully dark, haunting, magical, and emotional. It had me engrossed and was an excellent example of a dark romance and a woman using the support around her to bring back her power and self-belief. For me, it was a five-star read. I highly recommend it for lovers of dark romance!

If you would have asked me a week ago if the circus was sexy, I would have said no, but this book proved that to b e wrong time and time again. I don’t think I will ever be able to look at a circus tent the same way again.
This book was a beautiful blend of fun, trauma healing, vigilante-ism, darkness, and very enjoyable spice.
If you are a fan of why choose romance, the circus, or either of these authors I highly recommend this book. I think it is one of my favorite why choose stories I have ever read.

Ember has been attracted to the odd and dark since she was a child. After the death of her father, Ember is sucked into an abusive marriage. Fate and a bit of magic brings Heart, Club, Spade, Diamond into her path. 4 men that are dark and twisted in all the ways that Ember never knew she needed but her soul craved. This book was dark, magical, unhinged, and spicy! This book is absolutely not for the faint of heart and content warnings should be taken seriously. I can't stop thinking about this story and the characters. If you love found family, why choose, paranormal happenings, and a good dose of revenge than this is one you can't pass up!! The story is haunting and compelling and difficult to put down!!
I honestly should have known better. I’m rarely in the headspace to read anything as dark as this book. It does have clear trigger warnings, and I’ve read and even own works by one of these authors. But there’s different kinds of darkness, and different ways of tackling these dark themes. While I’d handle some at the moment, this wasn’t something I can read right now.
Who doesn't love a reverse harem circus story? This gave give me everything that I wanted. Substantial growth for the FMC. E awesome group of men who just wanted to ensure that she was safe. This was a fantastic book. Lots of trauma triggers in this book. But so worth the read
