3.5 stars Lex is a very strong likable protangonist. There is some romance with her relationship with vampire Quinn but it is not the focus of the story – that is always firmly on the interesting paranormal mystery to solve and villain to be defeated. In this one we get more information on boundary witches and Lex’s personal history. I also love the friendships in this book, especially Lex’s friendship withteh Pellar siblings Simon & Lily. Looking forward to reading more about Lex & co so hoping there will be more in this series.

I enjoyed this addition to the Boundary Magic series. Lex is an interesting character to follow and as others have noted we see her use her support system a lot more in this book, although we see less detail on the characters as it's spread more thinly.

The plot is a good fleshing out of some of Lex's background and capabilities but was a little too easily resolved. The secondary aspect with crystals and herbs was a nice touch but surprising since it's very traditional and most aspects of the series aren't.

I'm looking forward to picking up the next one as they're well written UF without too much emphasis on romance.

I actually ended up really enjoying this, and while I considered giving it 3.75 stars, I decided to leave it at 4 because I liked it so much, despite its flaws.

I thought the first half was quite strong and compelling, but then a little over half way it felt like some things started not making sense, and were a bit of a stretch, as far as the plot goes.

Spoilers

This one definitely went down a darker path, going into the circumstances of Lex's biological family and the circumstances of her birth. It did bother me though that at the end Lex was excusing Emil's behavior, despite the fact that he was willing to essentially kidnap her and force her into slavery to carry babies she doesn't want. Yes he was a product of this process himself, but that's no excuse for his participation in the scheme, and I had no sympathy for him.

I think the main thing that bothered me about the ending is the fact that Lex pressed Quinn  against his will, which is a very serious thing that could potentially have ended their relationship, but nothing came of it, which I think was unrealistic and also unhealthy. What she did was a serious breach of trust, and even if she did it for good reasons, she took away his autonomy, his free will, and his right to choose. But all he says to her about it is don't do it again? I was expecting a lot more to come out of that, and at least some sort of serious conversation between them.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job. I'm really enjoying this series and how the story is resolved by the end of the book.

Th third book in the series continues Lex's story as she learns more about her origins. Overall a good, fast read although it wraps up a little too neatly and quickly.

Lex crossed from anti-hero to stupid to live in this one. While the series was fun and had potential, I can only care so much about a character who doesn't grow or at all make better decisions three books in.

This has been an immensely enjoyable series so far. I read the first book maybe a week or so ago, and I don't typically jump to get the next books in the series, but I had to with these. The plots and characters were pretty solid and definitely compelling, and honestly, just really, really fun. I was worried the romance would start to take over, but it's been pleasantly subtle. They're genuinely fun reads, and I really hope there are more coming. I'm pretty sure I could read a dozen of these in a row.

4.5 Stars - a step better than the previous two

The way the world is growing, and the way that Lex is learning about who she is and what she can do. I'm binging the series...so it has been a lot of fun, so far.

We are now learning about her background and some of the magical elements in her ancestry. Also, the adding of the crystals was a really neat introduction for average magicians.

Lex, to most of the community has got to be receiving a sh*t magnet award. Stuff continues to follow her around.

I like how Maven is now treating her. The next two books have to explore this new found relationship and how things may start to change in Bolder and its vicinity.

I was really worried about Lex and Quinn...after a certain thing happened, but it all worked out. Really laughed when i heard his excuse when going to partes. LOL funny.

Another great adventure. I feel for Lex, she's just trying to be a person in this community, but the whole world seems to be against her. Thank goodness for Simon and Lily, but also Quinn and even Maven.

And now that you know this, are you any different than you were yesterday?” he asked. Pragmatic, as usual. “Nothing has changed, Lex. You haven’t changed. You just know something that you didn’t know before, that’s all.

The third time around, we have two new plot threads: someone has poisoned Maven and tehre is a new evil on the hunt.

From a world building perspective, this book finally make it past the point where the world building just didn't seem different enough from real world stories to actually really interesting world building. The idea of a supernatural progenitor
still being around in the modern world
isn't a new one, but the connection to death magic and a secret society works. There is a lot of space to explore there and I want to know more.

Characterwise, I like the new characters well enough especially on the villain side:
Lex's birth family
. In the end, it felt like they were overcome too easily, but they're interesting. On the good guy side, the only really new character may have been the crossover witch from another series in the same world: Scarlett Bernard. I'm curious what her story is.

Other than that, it's a mostly straight forward plot and a continued love triangle free romance (which I appreciate). Well done, and easily the best of the three in my eyes, although still not quite up to five stars. Unfortunately, there's this tidbit in the acknowledgements:

Although I’m not done with this character, I’ll be letting her do her thing in Boulder while I go back to Scarlett Bernard’s adventures in Los Angeles for a bit.

Just when it was really getting good. So it goes I guess.
