Loved everything about this book!! Takes place in the upper peninsula of Michigan within a native community. Our main character, Dauntis Fontaine is a young woman who harbors many secrets. Even in utero she was a mystery, since her mother was an underage non native girl at the time. But the lies only grow when Dauntis, at 18 years old, agrees to become a confidential informant to the FBI for an investigation into her own tribal community. One that involves the people closest to her, and revolves around her uncle’s mysterious death. This book covers themes of identity, grief, native culture, love, and family, in a captivating story that’s impossible to put down.
