It's the bad books that let you truly appreciate the good ones.

I'm glad if you enjoyed this. Sadly it never clicked for me or lived up to any of the blurbs.

However, Mr. Johnson's characters are really tuned into their sense of smell, and that counts for. . . something.

Wow this book was very violent!! But I liked it, spooky, sci Fi, sometimes funny!

Started out as mild YA scifi but took a hard turn into much heavier body-horror once the other shoe has dropped. Things took a little too long to get going and then too rapidly sped through what should've been best parts.

2.5 stars. Not really my cup of tea, didn't get invested in the story or the characters but perhaps I would like it better if I read it instead of listening to it. Might reread it if I get an opportunity to do that in the future. For now I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get emersed and hooked in the story.

DNF - I read one review that said it starts slow but picks up 100 pages in...and I just couldn't get to that point.

Thank you NetGalley and Gallery/Saga Press for this ARC.

Wow wow wow, this book is incredible!! It is for sure a favorite read of 2020. The characters are amazing and so authentic. I felt transported back to high school with the bullies, the “loadies”, and the awkward kids. There were some things about Lucy, the main character, that I could relate to. Then there’s the conspiracy aspect, and a corporation testing a biotech device in a small rural town. Obviously nothing is going to go wrong, right? We all know the answer to that. This book was sooo gory! So if you don’t like gore, be warned. I personally felt like the ending also tied everything up nicely. This book gets all the stars!

A fun read from start to finish. Had me hooked in no time! Might crank up the rating later, but for now it sits at like a 3.4 out of 5.
