upon reading the blurb I had quite high expectations for this book however it took around 50% of the book to reach there. therefore I felt that the plot was slow paced and it took me a while to, initially, become invested in the book. although the themes in the book brought about questions for discussion, it often felt that Elizabeth was just defying 1960s societal norms which felt quite empty and hollow and I couldn't sense much passion from Elizabeth.

An incredible read and had me locked in from beginning to end. The story of Elizabeth Zott is an inspiring one as you go through the story following all the bull she has to put up with just for being an intelligent woman in the 50s and 60s. Also feels very relevant to modern America in a lot of ways.

One of the better books I’ve read. Highly recommended.

I can’t believe I slept on this book for so long! I couldn’t put it down. I laughed, I sobbed and I left feeling so inspired and in love with Elizabeth Zott and the empowerment she made me feel.

Honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read. The ending actually made me teary eyed. Thoroughly enjoyed reading!

I hate that my rating is so low because I agree with pretty much everything this author stands for. This book covers tons of important topics such as gender equality, America's issue with over-medicating and how to deal with grief just to name a few.

Unfortunately most of this is undermined by her execution. The best way I can describe her writing style is "quirky millennial." Which was jarring throughout the entire book, especially because this takes place in the 50s? I was constantly pulled out of the story because of this style. On top of that, the main character is off-putting - think a feminist Jimmy Neutron. Always the smartest in the room and refers to simple household goods by their chemical composition to average people (which I'm pretty sure is an exact plot point in Jimmy Neutron). Her daughter (and dog for some reason...?) are also always vastly more intelligent than adult humans. I feel like this annoying style really devalued the author's overall message and just did not work for me.
