Jay Kristoff

Anything Jay Kristoff writes I will read and probably love. This was no exception. Robots. Androids. Cyborg dogs. Mad Max: Fury Road vibes, and I LOVE Mad Max. There is a character named Lemon Fresh. How awesome it that? So many great things about this book that I can't even begin to describe.

Definitely one of my favorite books of the year.

4.5 stars.
"Your scars tell who you are. Your skin is the page, and your scars are the ink, telling the story of your life."

This book is a mind-f.. I love the characters and the ending has destroyed me. Forever.

3.5 stars. The story is good and I liked the fast pace, but I wasn't really invested in the characters. I did love Lemon Fresh and Cricket though, the rest I could take or leave. I really liked the world building, it was detailed and intriguing. I enjoyed the twist at the end.

It's a good fun read and I may continue the series to see if I become more invested.

This book wasn't terrible. The idea was good. I think what prevented it from getting 4 stars is that it was just so slow up until the 3rd part of the book. I was struggling to make it through the first two parts and almost just completely put it down, but I just told myself to keep going.
I also didn't like that points of view changed in random places, and it was almost always hard to tell whose point of view it had switched to. It was just really random and I don't think it fit, at least not very well. It would have flown a little better if it was mentioned that the POV was changing.
Other than that, I could see myself reading the next book just to find out what happens. I probably won't be overly excited and waiting for it, but I'd pick it up for sure.

It was good. Absolutely okay. I didn't find it original and it felt a little predictable but the story was good and compelling anyway. I did find the language a little... silly? The overuse of slang and Kristoff's need to be "hip" in every sentence felt like a big setback to the story and very childish to be honest. Or maybe I'm just getting old, I don't know.

This book has major Mad Max vibes. Which I dig! It's set in a ruined world and there are lots of robots and advanced technology and the USA is run by 2 competing corporations. The main character Eve finds out her past wasn't what she believed it was. There's lots of action and it is a fast paced, fun book, but the relationships between the characters isn't super compelling and I wasn't really shocked by the plot twists.

5 Stars!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

“Your past doesn't make calls on your future. It doesn't matter who you were. Only who you are.”

What a ride- Fast paced and action packed- I doubt there is anything more I can say about Jay Kristoff's writing. He has quickly become and AUTO BUY author for me. He writes characters you fall in love with and uses multiple undertones, like in this book, we get a glimpse of the Russian Revolution, Religion, Slavery, Freedom etc.- that adds so much depth to his story. By taking post apocalyptic spices from things we have heard before about sci-fi, apocalypse and dystopia- its like he throws it in a pot and whips up the very best dish.

With an engaging narrative and a world full of VERY descriptive imagery- I couldn't help but think about things like AI, Terminator, West World, Transformers, Firefly, Fallout, and The Lunar Chronicles etc. . So very thought provoking- and the PLOT TWISTS- THAT ENDING- AHHHH I can not say enough good things about Kristoff- the Wizard of Words.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to the rest of the series.
