5 Stars!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
“Your past doesn't make calls on your future. It doesn't matter who you were. Only who you are.”
What a ride- Fast paced and action packed- I doubt there is anything more I can say about Jay Kristoff's writing. He has quickly become and AUTO BUY author for me. He writes characters you fall in love with and uses multiple undertones, like in this book, we get a glimpse of the Russian Revolution, Religion, Slavery, Freedom etc.- that adds so much depth to his story. By taking post apocalyptic spices from things we have heard before about sci-fi, apocalypse and dystopia- its like he throws it in a pot and whips up the very best dish.

With an engaging narrative and a world full of VERY descriptive imagery- I couldn't help but think about things like AI, Terminator, West World, Transformers, Firefly, Fallout, and The Lunar Chronicles etc. . So very thought provoking- and the PLOT TWISTS- THAT ENDING- AHHHH I can not say enough good things about Kristoff- the Wizard of Words.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to the rest of the series.

What the actual fuck???? I am so shocked. This book had so many secrets and the end left me speechless!
WOW,the ending though.. Just a note, The inside cover is beautiful.
This is wild. The world is wonderful.
lem and Eve friendship was precious. They were holding each other right when needed. My first thoughts was "I think I will love Crick alot" and really I loved this nice thing.he or it is my second best character.Grandpa 😍.
I was fascinated by how the story grew on me. I couldn't connect to the characters who were half robots or full ones but after awhile,I connected to almost all of them . I respected how the author made the main characters not so perfect as we would think. Eve with half damaged and replaced face and Ezekiel damaged arm.Lim and dimples ^^ ,they were adorable ❤❤.
.
I found it hard to understand the world at first. The first half was going to a five stars book but Ana was actually stupid to me in many parts even more than Gape and that was the only reason it ended as a four stars.I just hoped it was Ezekiel's story. He was strong and smart character and he made more sense to me .
The book made me afraid of AI more than I was .

I love the difference here to make main character not the hero with superpowers then made her totally a different thingI found it hard to understand the world at first. The first half was going to a five stars book but Ana was actually stupid to me in many parts even more than Gape and that was the only reason it ended as a four stars.I just hoped it was Ezekiel's story. While not Nevernight, it is a good addition to Kristoff's body of work.
Edited to add: re-read with an eye to finishing the trilogy this year.

I didn't think I would like this book especially when just a few chapters in and the made up slang was not sitting well with me at all. Thankfully I got past it, I mean it never went away but it didn't really become that huge of a hurdle as I thought it would be.
This book is filled with so many twists! Divided into 4 parts, each ends with revelations that kept me guessing and wondering. And just when I thought I had it figured out... well things happen. And now I wish I have the next book with me because OMG WHY DID IT HAVE TO END LIKE THAT?! You really just have to read it to understand what I mean. I had to hold back real hard not to click "buy now" on Amazon for the next book. It's worth it but I'm not exactly swimming in money right now unfortunately.
What really makes this book work is how well the characters were written to slowly burn into you. With every chapter I liked each of them more and more and thus what they were feeling I felt too. And there's a lot of hurt in this book, another NOT HAPPY read. Don't come into this book expecting to end up happy. It's all hurt. Just prepare yourself.
Aside from the main character, Eve, stand outs for me were definitely Lemon Fresh and Cricket. I really love those two! They bring laughter into the story to balance things out a bit. Just a bit. Maybe. Hehe.
And let's talk about the naming of the characters here for a bit. I think the names used were genius! I know just a tiny bit of the stories of the angels and etc to speculate on why the characters were named the way they are. Raphael, Gabriel, Hope, Faith, Eve, Ezekiel... etc. I might be over thinking things but I think their names really played into how things unfurled.
SPOILER DISCUSSING THE NAMES USED:
Then there's the deaths of Grace and Hope. It felt ominous like they symbolized something the story was going. Wow when HOPE died, HOPE died. You know what I mean??? It felt really ominous when that happened and I should've known things were going to get really bad from there. BUT!! With that in mind, Faith and Mercy is still alive. Imagine the speculations I would have if they would died in the next book. OMG! I can only imagine how dark my theories would get.
Next is EVE. She's also Ana which reminded me a lot of the story of Anastasia. You know the Anastasia Romanov? Having her name be so obviously Russian parallels that to the well know story of the real Anastasia... until we find out she's not really Ana. But her name Eve. Eve is also in stories the first female - Adam and Eve anyone? So I guess she's going with Eve from the last chapter to the next book? I'm not sure where it's going but speculation, Eve made Adam bite the apple so I can assume she's going to be manipulating Gabriel.
And just going to mention Babel. Tower of Babel anyone?
So, this book has a lot of things going on and I mean A LOT. It's amazing that the author has somehow made it all work. I haven't enjoyed reading a YA dystopian like this in a really long while and I'm glad I stumbled into this. Almost nonstop action at every turn of the page which at some points reminded me of my favorite dystopian movie series, Terminator.
I look forward to reading more from this author!

Let's take Gabriel for example - Archangel Gabriel is known as the defender and in some stories he was told to have been sent to destroy and as such he became the initiator of destruction of Gnosis, well sort of. You get what I mean. Then there's the deaths of Grace and Hope. It felt ominous like they symbolized something the story was going. Wow when HOPE died, HOPE died. You know what I mean???
