YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!

I ABSOLUTELY loved this novel. It was filled with kickass badassery!! I love, love, loved it! I found the concept compelling, the plot enthralling and the characters downright relatable! What more could I possibly want?!

Actually, I threw a little lie into that paragraph. I did love the concept, yes, but the plot was sometimes lacking.  I found that my mind had a tendency to go on a stroll during some parts and it became a chore in regards of roping those thoughts back. Pluuuuuus! The lovey-dovey part of this just seemed to kick into gear, realllll fast. Like KA-BAM. Instalove. This fact makes me really sad because I really like Jay Kristoff as an author, he's excellent but D: this is a no-no for me.

How about we stop talking about the boring bits and the love, and get to the stuff that made me happy? Like the characters. Lemon and Eve have the friendship I would protect with my life. They are incredible characters, and if this book has anything to hold for itself its that kickass female duo. All of the friendships were pretty legendary and the interactions downright hilarious! That's one thing Jay can do well, witty humour! The way the characters bounced off each other, it was an absolute treasure.

Not to mention, the plotting was pretty incredible. I've heard that others have found this story predictable, but I DIDN'T EXPECT A THING. The plot twists were SLAM! BAM! THANK YOU MA'AM!! Insane. I enjoyed the ride, and I'm sorry that others expected the twists and turns, because the unpredictability spiked my love for this novel.

Mister Kristoff is a wonderful author, he wowed me with Illuminae and again with Nevernight. It comes to no surprise that he's produced another great and unique novel. Lifelike is a new concept of genre for me, I'm not a huge Sci-Fi reader, so I'm glad that this book has blown my expectations out of the water. In my opinion, it's a truly exceptional novel.

The break down of my rating:
Plot: 8/10
Characterisation: 10/10
Development: 9/10
Style & Tone: 9/10
Enjoyment Factor: 8/10

Guys I love Lemon

4/5

This one took me a while to get into but I think it was mainly because I was in a reading slump when I read it. It felt like it took me forever to finally get through it, but I'm not going to judge it based on that because I think it was just bad timing for me to read it.

So it's not you book, it's me.

The strength of this story is definitely the characters. They are all very sassy and I loved it. Can we just have whole book centred around Lemon Fresh please? And was it just me or were other people also wanting Lemon Fresh to get the guy instead of Eve? No? Just me? 🤔

Overall, I liked the story but what really sold me on it was the ending. Didn't see that coming!

Sequel. Now. Please.

Another hit by the literary giant! Thank you Mr. Kristoff for another world, another great set of characters, and another series to get addicted to.

Damn. DAMN. What does one even read after this? How will anything ever compare?

I was so unsure of it till like half way through part 3. And now since I've finished I'm feeling kinda stunned. Like woah and huh and uhhhh and 😭and kinda disengaging with reality as I stare into the shinny book cover....
adventurous dark tense medium-paced

Things I liked
- Lemon Fresh. I mean, how couldn't you? Also Cricket and Mr. C, of course.
- All those freaking plot twists! Holy heck! Blew my socks right across the room.
- The chapter names are very ominous and I liked them a lot.
- The dept of the world-building. *Chef's kiss*

Things I disliked
- Ana and Eziekel's relationship felt superficial and didn't even realize they had a thing for each other before they kissed tbh.
- I was a tad confused and bored in the beginning and middle (but the last 150 pages I loved).

All in all very solid 3.5. May read the sequel and definitely want to read more by Jay Kristoff.

Jay Kristoff is masterful at writing witty and smart ass dialog. His characters are always complex and flawed in the best ways and I find it easy to love and love to hate them at all the right places. I predicted little in this book and I find that completely refreshing. I want a Lemon Fresh and Cricket and Kaiser in my life. Everyone deserves such a motley little crew to surround themselves with. There was more emotion and angst than I think I expected going in, but it all worked perfectly. And that big twist! Who'da thunk it?! The wait for book 2 is going to be a rough one. But as with all his work, I am positive it will be well worth it!
