I was gifted this book by a good friend of mine who is a history professor, and I absolutely understand why she loved it. Alas, while I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t quite…punchy enough for me.

A quick read, but also quickly engaging. In such a short book I wasn’t expecting to get such an intricate and fabulous plot, but I was greeted with a fantastic small cast of characters and a plot I was enthralled to find out more about! Highly recommend for someone looking for a short fantasy read.

This feels like a slightly darker companion to The Monk and the Robot duology. This world is not always kind, but there still is a hope that it could be better. I love the idea of a traveling cleric and their counterpart (in this case a talking bird).
