"Success comes not from acting more like a man, but by acting more like a woman, instead of a girl"

aber das Buch ist insgesamt sehr amerikanisch und nach 133 Fehlern fühle ich mich sehr defizitär.

I thought this book was going to be about how society has a certain expectation of women but you don’t have to force yourself to fit into it and just be your authentic self while succeeding at your job.

But GOD this book absolutely sucked. CANNOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. The author really gave the vibe that she hates women and most of her “tips” were how to act more like men because apparently that’s what makes you succeed at work and get promotions. EXCUSE ME??? She basically said go out of your way not to do things that are considered stereotypically feminine (even if that’s your authentic self). And also go out of your way to not do things that are TOO masculine because that won’t be authentic - i.e. stay in your lane and don’t do things women shouldn’t do. Like do you see my confusion here maam??

Even some of the mistakes that I KNOW I do and need to fix, I didn’t want to take her advice on because of how much I could not stand the callous way she talked about women.

Many regrets about picking this book for my work book club.

I have mixed feelings about this book, to say the least.

In general, the author tell you to act like a man in a man's world. Though I absolutely detest that kind of thinking, I must admit that her advice does seem to work.

I would recommend this book to freshers looking for jobs as the book's advice may come in handy at the beginning. At the same time, I'd ask them to use this book as the foundation only, and build their work place behavior/ethics from there, taking into fair consideration their own set of skills and predispositions.

This books opened my eyes to many things that I wasn't noticing before.

DID NOT FINISH

After reading Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg I was on the search for similar books. This wasn’t it. This was a bunch of random tips without much applicability to daily life in the workplace. Each short chapter seemed to only have hypothetical scenarios and buzzwords. I couldn’t last more than 30 minutes into this. Do not recommend.

I just don't care anymore

I read this to use as a guide for mentoring young female interns with a need to develop a professional edge - it beautifully and succinctly sums up many fatal flaws of feminine workplace habits. With that being said, I don't agree that everything in this book is a "female mistake", but it set a good tone for discussion.

Interesting... but it seems very commonsence...
