This book isn't perfect, but holy shit is it good

A mix between Heather's and I spit on your Grave. The assault is never shown in graphic detail. I appreciate that. Too many times, in this type of story, they focus on the wrong parts. I'm glad she stuck to the vengeance, using their words against them. Showing their lack of guilt and remorse
I think she could have gone harder with the kills, but they were still pretty good.
The identity of the dazzle smile boy was pretty obvious throughout the book

I think the whole novel was presented and handled well, it was almost therapeutic in a twisted sense

I really enjoyed this - it had just enough Macbeth references to be satisfying for someone who knows the play, without completely losing someone who doesn’t. I love a female revenge plot and especially loved seeing it transferred to the YA setting du jour, private school. I appreciated that Capin really leaned into how unhinged Shakespeare plots often are.

Ok. Tiktok brought me to this one and I found the ARC cover they showed compelling. It could reflect the duality evident in society, where women want and are given more liberties, but they are always held to impossible standards.

The coven's characters were amazing. A tight-knit group of female friends who have gone through everything together and stand first and foremost for each other.
The rest of the characters I found to be lacking, kind of generalized versions of different cliches.

The instalove, or rather, insta-infatuation was way too fast, even for teenagers. Speaking of teenagers, they have some incredibly deep things happen to them and we are expected to accept these grown-up behaviours? Kind of unbelievable, would have accepted more of it if they had been university characters maybe? More young adult.

I found myself still invested (a little bit) in the story, even if it reminded me at all times of old tragedies (and then read it was meant to be a Macbeth retelling hehe) so I kept on reading till the end, which is open ended and leaves a strange taste behind, given last minute developments.

I loved this book. I didn't know I needed it, but it was exactly what I wanted to read. The writing felt magical and the book made me want to keep reading continuously. It's been a long time since I was able to finish a book in a single day. This was absolutely amazing. I love how it made me twist my own ideals of what is good and evil. Everyone in the book did terrible things and yet I still loved them

⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️ Five stars (as rated in the coffins that are literally piling on top of one another by the end of this book)

Elle and her friends are more than just besties; they're The Coven. And no one fucks with The Coven. On the night of Elle's sixteenth birthday, The Coven is closer than ever. Dressed to kill and with their sights set on crashing a party thrown by the St. Andrews Prep Lacrosse Team, The Coven feels absolutely untouchable. That is until the St. Andrews boys corners Elle the way they've cornered countless girls before her. In the aftermath of her assault, The Coven vows revenge. Reeling from her trauma, Elle transforms herself; she is now Jade and Jade has one mission; take those St. Andrew's perverts down once and for all. And she'll use one of their very own to do it.

“We'll be the witches they don't believe in until it's too late."

This book reads like Shakespeare was trying to get featured on an Olivia Rodrigo album and I mean that in the absolute best possible way. 💀 Y'all, this is the full sociopath Macbeth retelling I didn't know I needed. If you like slasher flicks, read R.L Stine as a kid or enjoy when sexual predators get absolutely wrecked by their own karma (👍🏻) then this book is a spooky season must!

✨ Read this book because: the MC is relatable in that depraved AF way that we all felt on some level in our teen years, the ending is satisfying as hell and rife with poetic Shakespearean-style justice ...

✨ Content warnings for this book: sexual assault, sexual violence, alcohol, death, violence, gore, murder, drowning, car accident, medical stuff, drug use, sex, trauma, PTSD, transphobia
