I've read that this is Montgomery's only book geared towards an adult audience, but it seems rather childish to me. I did find much of the book intentionally (and sometimes unintentionally) hilarious, but I disliked each and every one of the characters, including the heroine. The ending was ridiculously unlikely, but I could still see it coming a mile away.

Every book club I've ever been a part of eventually chooses an L.M. Montgomery book for us to read and discuss.

I wish they would stop.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a novel with absolutely zero subplots, then this is the book for you.
