It took me a long time to get through this book and I nearly DNF'd about halfway but the last half absolutely made up for it and I'm glad I finished. It is dark dark and toxic and gut-retching and morally gray and I ended up enjoying it much more that the first.

The first part of the book almost had me putting it down and never looking back. The pain and suffering of the main character was a lot to take in.  I never google how books turn out, but I had to know that there was a so called light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm glad I continued reading.

I liked the first book, it was at least thrilling and had me wanting more. This book had none of that. There were many times I wanted to put it down and never pick it back up again, but kept hoping it’d get better. Yes, the author listed a trigger warning, but it wasn’t even about that. The first half of the book was very rough because of everything Adeline went through, but I was hoping for more when she was rescued. I feel like too much of the book was focused on the abuse Adeline went through, but not her getting her revenge. Claire ESPECIALLY deserved to be tortured more, or die a slower death, but it was very quick and happened at the very end of the book. Considering how in depth Zade went to torture his captives in the first book, I definitely thought Claire, Xavier, Francesca, and Rocco would’ve had it worse off. I was also expecting something to happen with the ghosts in Parson’s Manor, but that never came either. As messed up as it sounds, it just wasn’t very satisfying. I wish I would’ve just stopped after the first book.

10/10 hard pass. This was excruciatingly painful to continue. I wasn’t super impressed by the first, however, gave this a shot in hopes some kind of character development would occur. Nope, just some more noncon, lots of (TW) torture, graphic violence. . . And somehow I like the main characters even less this go around? This isn’t to undermine what Addie went through, because that was traumatic af, but it wasn’t even the dark stuff that made this unreadable. The writing style isn’t my thing. . . To each their own, for me, not the vibe 🤷🏻‍♀️

Listen, there is a lot to unpack in this book, it's a ride, and not an easy one. It's a dark curvy back road, with a lot of traumatic, emotional moments.  This I not light spice...
