Atmospheric and prescient early sci-fi novel. Prescient as the idea of war being carried to the Home Counties was unknown to the 19th century. The ending may be seen as a bit of a copout - the Martians all caught cold and died! - but the action is good. Wells is still very readable even over a century later.
