Resisting the Running Back by Lisa Suzanne โœจ๏ธarc reviewโœจ๏ธ

FINALLY, we get Miller and Sophie's story! Like I know, I only had to wait one book, BUT STILL!! I've been dying to know what happened, and honestly, I still think Miller should have punched ex boy in the face he definitely deserved it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The amount of PINING AND YEARNING THIS MAN HAS DONE. Like, oh my gosh, it was EVERYTHING, like he carried a torch for this woman for 14 YEARS!! I'm just it's just UGH SWOON ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

What related to the most was that literally EVERYONE knew Miller was in love with Sophie...except Sophie. When Miller was talking to Tanner and was essentially saying "yeah the whole world knows I love Sophie except Sophie" I was like MOOD!

Comedy aside, Sophie and Miller's friendship really deserves the star spotlight because they really carry each other. They have a friendship that not many people get to experience the "drop everything move mountains be there in 20 minutes" type of friendship. And that is a type of love that runs deeper than other type of love. Their unconditional support and love for each other was truly something else, and let me tell you how HARD  I screamed when the friends FINALLY became lovers. Holy crap, my co-worker came into the office to ask if I was okay (yes, I read this book at work literally fight me ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ)

This book is SO good, and I'd absolutely recommend this book/series (since it is book 5 in a series) it'll be a fun addition to that ever growing summer tbr ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿคญ

Catch all you bookish babes later ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿฉท

I think this is Lisaโ€™s spiciest book to date. Sophie and Millerโ€™s chemistry was so hot. I like how these situations that Lisaโ€™s characters find themselves in arenโ€™t so wildly outlandish that they just seem so unrealistic. These things could very well happen to someone. Another huge plus for me is Lisa not only knows the game of football, but she actually includes game play as part of the story. I loved seeing Sophie and Miller navigate their relationship from being best friends to faking an engagement to a real engagement after discovering theyโ€™ve both been harboring real feelings for each other for a long time.

Tor and Kelsey knocked this narration out of the park once again. I loved them coming together as all the couples in this series.

Am I allowed to cry because this series is over? This may be my most favorite football romance series of all time. If you havenโ€™t read this football brothers series, you definitely need to check it out!

Tropes:

๐Ÿˆ He Falls First (for years)
๐Ÿˆ Fake Engagement
๐Ÿˆ Forced Proximity

Sophie and Millerโ€™s story was a great way to end this series. Theyโ€™ve been friends for years, and when sheโ€™s in trouble, he comes to her rescue. Miller is just such a good guy. He saves her by going along with her when she tells her parents theyโ€™re engaged, he moves her into his house, and he helps support her as she starts writing full time. He loves their friendship so much that he keeps his feelings from her, and you fall in love with him probably before Sophie does ๐Ÿ˜‚ I really enjoyed how things resolved, and Iโ€™m looking forward to the next series!

Resisting the Running Back is the final book in The Nash Brothers series and I'm sod to see the end. Yes the world at large will continue with a spin-off series but this was my first series by Lisa Suzanne so it's hard to see the end. But I thought that this was a good ending. I always enjoy a best friends to lovers romance and this has been one of the best ones I've read in a minute. Sometimes with the best friends to lovers trope it's just to predictable and easy if that makes sense. And I felt that Sophie and Miller had the right level of drama between them.
I really enjoyed reading how Sophie realized she was in love with Miller. At the start of the book right off the bat we know Miller loves Sophie, that she has always been the girl for him but they just kept missing each other, when one was finally single the other would be in a relationship. By the beginning of the book the idea of being with Miller doesn't even cross her mind. Slowly she sees all the sweet things Miller does for her not just as material for her romances she writes but he's the perfect book boyfriend on and off page.

This family is always fun to visit with! Sophie and Miller are characters that are very easy to love. The friendship runs deep, and that connection has been there for a long time. Miller is the type to drop everything when she needs him and that just melts the heart from the start. They have fun together, there is a ton of heat, and it all comes together so well. When we add visits from others in the family, the pages turn easily. It's another great read in this series!

The last Banks/Nash brother is about to fall although technically Millar Banks fell for Sophie Summers sixteen years before when they were fourteen only to find himself friend zoned. Now itโ€™s his thirtieth birthday, the year theyโ€™d made a pact that if they werenโ€™t married then they were each otherโ€™s fall back position but Sophie was in a long term relationship until a phone call from her has him leaving his Vegas birthday bash to run to her side and grabbing his chance. Before twenty-four hours are up Sophie finds herself relocated to San Diego and faking a relationship with Millar.

This was a fun and steamy friends to loversโ€™ read but while I loved Millar in Resisting the Running Back, I really wasnโ€™t a fan of the heroine Sophie. Initially Millar seemed to be the only one invested in their relationship pretend or otherwise. I mean free board and lodgings, the opportunity to spend all her time writing, a hot fake fiancรฉ not to mention one who was ready to help with any research, it all seemed a little one sided to me, he evens cooks for her! But the more time they spent together, the more the tension between them built and eventually nature took its course. There was still a hesitation as both were reluctant to do anything that might possibly ruin their friendship and just as things seemed to be sliding into place with them, a major fundamental difference about how they saw their future put their relationship to the test and despite their years of friendship were unable  to talk to each other about their feelings or finding a compromise. The overall flow to the story was steady and engaging and I loved catching up with the other Nash brothers who were all on hand with helpful advice for both the Banks boys. They had come together in one big, blended family with the sister in laws all ready to welcome Sophie into the fold. Man of the series award though goes to Millar for his public if belated proposal; the boy definitely did good there.

*Resisting The Running Back is the final book in The Nash Brothers sereis and is an interconnected standalone. While not necessary to read books 1-4 or Vegas Aces: The Coach, characters, and history may make more sense*

Sophie's life gets turned upside down within a matter of hours when her ex exposes her romance author pen name to her high school students as revenge for breaking up with him. When Sophie calls her best friend and pro football player Miller Banks, it turns into a fake engagement as she moves to San Deigo to pursue a writing career. Miller is always there to pick up the pieces, but he can't convince himself to confess his feelings to her, afraid he'll mess up their friendship, but how long can she resist the running back?

I can't believe this series has come to an end! I was so excited to learn more about Sophie and Miller after Tanner's book, and Lisa delivered! I loved how sweet Miller is with Sophie, always her rock to ground and support her but also fulfilling her spicy scene fantasies. The appearance of all the family members to wrap up this series was great, and I look forward to the next San Diego player's book!

Tropes:

โœ”๏ธ Childhood Best Friends to Lovers
โœ”๏ธ Fake Relationship
โœ”๏ธ Golden Retriever Hero
โœ”๏ธ Forced Proximity (Roomates)
โœ”๏ธ He Falls First For Her
โœ”๏ธ Boy Obsessed

Resisting the Running Back is a best friends to lovers romance that was swoony. When Sophie and her boyfriend break up Miller doesnโ€™t hesitate to drop everything and be there for her. I love that he was supportive of her and that they were able to overcome the doubts they had over their future. I enjoyed seeing them did their happy ending!

Kelsey Navarro Foster and Tor Thom narrate this book in dual narration. Kelsey portrays both Sophieโ€™s sweet personality while also making you feel her emotions of her future with Miller. Tor does great at portraying Millerโ€™s love for Sophie for all of their friendship and his insecurities with finding out about his real father and how they affect his relationship with Sophie. They both do a great job bringing Sophie and Miller to life.

Thank you to Lisa for an advanced listen.

Iโ€™ve adored every story in the Nash Brothers series, but there was something extra special about Book 5, Resisting the Running Back. Lisa Suzanne delivers the ultimate trifecta of romance: steamy pro football, best friends-to-lovers tension, and a fake relationship that feels anything but fake.

Miller and Sophie have been each otherโ€™s ride-or-die for years, and watching their bond deepen into something more was pure magic. When Sophie discovers her boyfriend is cheatingโ€”and he outs her secret identity as a romance authorโ€”the first person she calls is Miller. Even while partying in Vegas, he drops everything for her. That alone sealed his book boyfriend status.

What follows is a beautifully layered story full of banter, brotherly twin moments with Miller and his brother, and locker room camaraderie that adds depth and heart. The sizzling passion and hesitation between Sophie and Miller felt realโ€”because risking a lifelong friendship for something more is terrifying, but oh so worth it.

This is one of those stories youโ€™ll want to savorโ€”fun, flirty, emotional, and full of the kind of chemistry that leaps off the page. Resisting the Running Back is an absolute must-read and a standout in an already amazing series.

I love to read a well-written epic fall of two best friends into love, and Miller and Sophie totally fit the bill! He won me over the second he abandoned his own birthday party to ride to her rescue after an ugly betrayal. My heart ached for him, knowing heโ€™d been harboring an unrequited love for her for so many years. The plot kept me hooked with the fun twists, witty banter, and a shocking amount of 5-alarm fire passion!! They were seriously explosive together!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿซ  If youโ€™ve read any of the other books in the series, you know that the world building and found family vibe are top notch! Miller and Tannerโ€™s twin bond was still adorable, despite the fact that they both are building families now, and I love that theyโ€™re finding their place with the Nashes as well! I canโ€™t believe this is the end of the series, but I loved every minute of this story!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
