A good return to the world of Jennifer Strange. She is still managing Kazam and trying to stay out of the king's line of sight to mixed results. Another good funny book from Fforde, full of great turns of phrases, funny characters and great writing. I'm not sure this book really stands on its own. But even if it does, the reader is missing out not reading the first one!

I really liked it, though it wasn't as good as the first. Maybe it's cause there were no dragons this time. I dunno. I also felt like it lacked plot unlike the first one. This one just seemed to be a bunch of random things happening that didn't REALLY relate to one another, which is how I felt through the first book, but at the end of the first one everything came together and everything made sense. I don't know, maybe it's just me. But who knows, it may all just come together in the next book!
Still really enjoyed it though. I do absolutely love this world.

As always, I greatly enjoy Fforde's way with words and his commitment to making his invented worlds as full of life and insanity as possible. He gets in some good digs at our real world and our reliance on things that run essentially on magic, as well as more generally at the incompetence of bureaucracy, but mostly he is content to let his characters do whatever they want, which is consistently amusing. When does his next book come out?

Not quite as good as the first, but lots of fun all the same!

Delightful. A bit predictable in parts but that didn't deter from a wonderful story, and I can't wait for a third book in this series!

Not as good as the first, but still a fun read. Looking forward to the next.

This sequel to The Last Dragonslayer kept up in excellent shape to the first one. The cast of characters is mainly the same, and the world we return to is in similar shape as when we left it, except that now magic is once again on the rise.

I enjoyed the mystery of the plot as the characters struggled to figure out how to fix the predicaments in which they found themselves (and what exactly the predicament was in the first place!). I thought character development went very well, although I was a little confused about why Jennifer was no longer the Dragonslayer (maybe I forgot an important detail from book one).

Also, glad that it wrapped up! I had a feeling it was going to drag into a trilogy, and I thought it was a perfect place to end things.

Fantastical and refreshing, exactly what I've come to expect from Jasper Fforde.
