Fforde's books are so funny - this would be a great book to read with a kid, you both would be laughing out loud.
Felt like it started a little slow and ended a little quick, but I did speed through the book since I was excited how to see how all the loose ends were tied up.
The sequel to the "The Last Dragonslayer" is just as good as the first. Filled to the brim with deadpan humor and whimsy. Jennifer Strange must navigate a world filled with Quarkbeasts and trolls, the King's Useless Brother (his actual name), magic that operates everything from bicycles to microwave ovens, wizards that give themselves accolades as they deem fit ("Great", "The Once Magnificent", "The All Powerful", etc.), and much more all while trying to operate and run the Great Zambini's magic for hire business as a trod upon foundling (orphan). I love Jasper Fforde's style of humor that, while good in his Next Thursday adult series of novels, seems to work even better in YA/Juvy. As I read to my kids, I needed to explain some of the humor and vocabulary, but that's a good thing in my eyes. Not at all a terrible thing to expand and challenge one's vocabulary and understanding of humor. It definitely did not detract from their enjoyment either. Both laughed quite a bit and begged me to read more throughout. I also love the main character, Jennifer. She's a great example of a powerful female character that I sorely needed after some of the more recent books I've read...coughhungergamescoughcough...
Jasper Fforde, throughly entertaining and completely bonkers as per usual! While the entire book was full of excellent quotes, I still think my favourite comes when Jennifer Strange explains that in the UnUnited Kingdom only people mature enough are licensed to drive, which means no wizards, and no males under the age of 26 can get behind the wheel.
Yet again I have smirked, sniggered and snorted through a Jasper Fforde. These may be designed for the teens market but they're just hilariously ridiculous. I confess to being smitten by a quarkbeast and all the inhabitants of Zambini Towers.
In this book Jennifer, Tiger and the sorcerers take on the Amazing Blix and iMagic. This time we meet the Once Magnificent Boo, a couple of trolls and the Transient Moose has a starring role.
I'm looking forward to The Eye of Zoltar. Maybe Jennifer will get a date at last.

Another great book by Jasper Fforde. This is the second book in the Last Dragon Slayer book and features more of the magical world of Kaazam. I love the world the Fforde constructs and his stories are ALWAYS enjoyable to read! Plus, more quark beasts....yay!
I really enjoyed this - not quite as much as the first one, but that is possibly because I did not have an entire day to sit down and read it in practically one sitting!! As with the other Fforde books, it was massively visual and the characters became very real (even wizards and dragons!!)
I very much enjoying the story of Jennifer Strange and am looking forward to reading about (presumably) the return of the wizard Shandar in 'The Return of Shandar'...
